The Unpopular Opinions Thread (Read OP)

tbh i think tzuyu's part in Likey is more unfitting than momo's

they both sound weird. but tzuyu's line is weirder in the song, like the way she sings it (more noticeable in live) is weird

i don't think her voice is ugly, it just sounds bad in the song? hard to explain

really unpopular opinion: i think meat mixed with textured vegetable protein tastes better than just straight meat

i know using TVP is what companies do when they're stingy with meat costs but I think it's got a nice texture lol

While I totally feel that female idols (and women in general) get wayyy too much criticism for "not smiling enough"...

I really wonder why some female idols don't smile on some music show stages.

Like doing a performance out of your promotional cycle is different, it's usually much more casual and most groups are going to have fewer eyes on them at these events. I get why an idol might be lax with their expressions there.

But like? The first SBS stage of your promotional cycle? It's less than 4 minutes that they're up there... I feel like... they should be smiling. In all honesty. Surely they're under a huge amount of pressure from their companies to give a good performance since that is prime time to be trying to attract more fans. Plus they have individual cameras on them, certainly they know fans will be watching them.

It just seems like there's a lot to lose from not smiling for a few minutes...

To be clear I'm talking about performances where smiling would fit the mood of the performance. Obviously some concepts are better done with a serious expression, like "girl crush" concepts

Momoland is definitely not going to be the same without Yeonwoo, Daisy, and Taeha

but people are too harsh on the existing lineup! Jooe and Nancy are still there, and Jane and Nayun have good individual potential.

Idk. I'm still looking forward to seeing more from them. No, I don't think they're going to match their previous success ever again. But I hope people don't write them off entirely.

Minzy needs Chungha's stylist

Her styling is doing her such a disservice, where is she

Also I don't really understand the choreography for this song. Minzy's a good dancer, so why does this song look so stiff... maybe I just don't understand it lol

nobody really talks about this, but pursuing a kpop idol body, or "kpop idol skinny", pretty much universally amounts to an eating disorder

and I'm not here to condemn it because I've totally internalized it myself! I want to be that skinny! like, to a degree where I can't be talked out of the idea. That pretty much amounts to an eating disorder.

and it's well within the realm of normalcy for idols themselves because 1. the culture encourages thinness 2. the industry encourages thinness 3. the culture within the industry encourages thinness

it's just part of the idol job. and it's not something that's really sane or healthy for most people. this is true for the physical activity idols do too. it's excessive. it's normal to them.

but... people idolize idols. the clothes that idols wear sell out. sometimes idols start trends of people mimicking something they do, wear, say, or own. people want to be like idols.

I don't really know where I was going with this post. Maybe this should have gone in the rant thread. Lol. My point is that it's unhealthy to be as skinny as kpop idols but nobody seems to blink when we sit around calling them beautiful and perfect and want to mimic them, and in some ways, I don't think I have an eating disorder... I just wanna look like pretty kpop idols...

The Meiqi cheating scandal had the unintended consequence of making me actually check out her solo work for the first time (i'm a bad ujung lol) and it's REALLY GOOD. I knew it would be because she had the talent and the backing, but goddamn.

Homewrecking is bad but I hope the ex gets paid off and Meiqi can continue her career. Spicy take maybe but if you put yourself in the ex's shoes, wouldn't you be satisfied if your homewrecker and cheating ex-boyfriend are both publicly shamed, and you get paid a fat stack to move on with your life? I think there's mutual benefit there lol

I understand that having a small head is considered a beauty ideal in Korea

But Hyeri...

her head is like a small yellow sesame seed...

I don't understand why you would desire that

Really? it's this post that strikes a nerve? I can make fun of poor Momo's singing unprompted in a thread and everyone laughs, I can write my stupid opinion about a scandal when I clearly didn't read the whole post and nobody drags me for it, but when I make fun of Hyeri's head-shrinking haircut in an advertisement from 2014 in the unpopular opinions thread, multiple negs within an hour. Lmao. Onehallyu is something else

edit: I appreciate u taking one for the team and breaking the rules to respond to me pinkpanda lmao. I think my comment was pretty obviously about her haircut because... yellow sesame seed.... 😐 I don't know why someone would assume I'm talking about her face considering that description matches her hair lol
