He sounded much better (deeper, clearer) before. Now his tone is 'inconsistent', sometimes is too light and nasally for my taste, sometimes is alright. DoraemoNobita 65 Posted July 13, 2017 Share Posted July 13, 2017 Kyuhyun got a vocal node. That's probably why his voice is a hit or a miss for you. I hate 85% of the materials that come out of SM. I don't know why but I just can't get into their music. Their main vocals sound like a machine/robot. They're hitting the note and is doing everything perfectly, but it just doesn't sound good to me. It's probably because I like melodic voices. In western music, I would pick Lana Del Rey over Beyonce any day. T-ara's Soyeon, Lovelyz's Kei and Hong Jinyoung are a few examples of melodic Korean vocalist that I love. They're not the best singer, but they produce beautiful sounds. Yes Kyuhyun got vocal nodule, but isn't it happen recently (last year, cmiiw)? His voice is a hit or miss for me since several years ago. I thought it's because Kyuhyun uses headier approach in his singing, thus his voice sounds lighter. A bit agree with SM vocalists sound kinda robotic. I don't think they sound emotionless, but they lack 'rawness'. It's like they are taught to sing correctly, textbook-y. Not all of them though. Their male vocalists esp. Compared with group like Mamamoo for example, they also have proper technique but sound more...expressive, lively, punchy, you name it. 2. Mamamoo's Wheein lacks X factor.
