The Unpopular Opinions Thread (Read OP)

I'm glad that AOA Mina went public about her getting bullied, but I really dislike when she told that Jimin would bring guys over to their dorm for sex. It is a very personal thing for any person, and it made me feel doubtful of Mina and her statements and intentions. Overall, I don't trust her much.

People who spend their time and energy hating on kpop groups because they are from big company should spend that energy on actually supporting smaller companies' groups.

Big groups attend weekly music shows so their fans will buy more albums to get them win on music shows. There is no other use to a famous group for investing all that time and resources on music shows which have low viewership ratings and don't even pay much.

Only use of these music shows is creating competitions where fans will compete on behalf of their idols.

SM makes quality music, but their music is not easy to digest for non kpop fans, who listen to mostly Western songs. It feels like SM knows how to make public friendly songs but they would rather make weird songs, and they depend on group's popularity to make their songs popular. How could they think "Wolf" or "tempo" by Exo would be public friendly songs and should be title track!

Irene should leave Red Velvet. I like her and I don't think she is a bad person, but Red Velvet has never been strong in album sales, mostly known to chart well and well known to public. Now Irene's scandal will affect that, maybe people will get over it.

She is already 30 so her visual position will not be much useful anymore. Joy is almost equal to her in popularity and SM will probably push Joy and Yeri for Cfs and endorsements. Red velvet's contract is going to end in August so she can just choose not to renew her contract and no one will be able to say it's because of her scandal.

Taehyung seems self centered and attention seeker type to me. He is the most popular member of Bts, and I'm sure they all know that, but he wants more attention on him. If he is tired of idol life, he should have quit or could have enlisted early to military that way he could get a break without leaving bts. Other members have personal problems too but they always give all their energy to their work, but Taehyung is always sulking as if he is there against his wishes.

If Jeongyeon's sister Gong Seung Yeon would have made in Red Velvet (she was a trainee at SM with Seulgi), she would have been the top visual of kpop, even more than Irene and Tzuyu and Doyeon and DIA's Chaeyeon. She has such an elegant and unique beauty.

Can't believe Jyp is the same company that made a girl crush group like miss a and gave us song like good girl bad girl, now seems to be confused how to build itzy's image, giving them songs with weird staccato raps. Give them more melodious songs please!

Taehyung is not as handsome like bts fans say. Jin and Jungkook are the most handsome of the group, Jin is classic handsome type and Jungkook is handsome in an innocent, boy next door kinda type.

Taehyung and Jimin are the type that wouldn't catch your attention at first, but their charisma / personality makes them more appealing the more you know them.

Overall, bts as a group is very attractive, they all have different charms.

Sounds like conspiracy theory, but it is possible that Irene controversy was created by SM in the first place. Her scandal happened on October 22, and Ningning's birthday is on October 23. Aespa was announced soon after the scandal, days after Ningning turned 18.

It is not a coincidence that all Aespa members are above 18. Whatever plan SM has for Aespa, their Aes, probably needed them to be adult or public would have been extra critical towards the concept with underage members.

Now what SM probably didn't foresaw was the series of bullying allegations that broke out in Feb 2021 and Irene got linked to it too as her scandal was still new.

I don't mind remake of songs, f(x) hot summer is a good song for example, but I don't know how SM chose that boring meh song "next level" and thought it would make a good kpop title track. Does SM actually want Aespa to flop? If they wanted to to remake a song, why not pick a good song which was popular. At least it would draw curious locals to check out the remake.

Reason why source music kicked out gfriend is quite obviously because they don't make much money for hybe which is a huge company. Hybe kicked them out so they can launch new girl groups. They don't want to invest in a declining girl group.

How you carry yourself influence how other people see you. When Momo went a bit off during more n more encore, she got surprised at herself and that drew everyone's attention. If she could have just played it off and ignored it, it wouldn't become such a big deal.

That combined with the fact that twice has so many haters. I see many fake accounts on youtube pretending to be twice fan and writing bad comments about other groups.

Kpop fans hate some groups more than others. They will try to cover their feelings with writing it off as critical analysis and objective criticism, but the way they word their "analysis" shows it comes from from their feelings, not critical thinking.

While some kpop fans are called obsessive, kpop antis are on another level of obsessive. Some kpop companies are losing big time by not hiring these people to create narratives against their competitors. They will even do it for free just to get that high.

A lot of kpop fans love to talk sheet about Knetizens but if their own comments were in Korean and on a Korean forum, so many of them would get sued for hate against idols and bullying them 😁

Fans saying they like "unique voice" is just another way of saying they know their fave is lacking as a singer and hype their vocal tone to hide their lack of skills lol

It's funny how everyone was waiting for Giselle to say the N word and when she didn't, they made up comments that she said it even when anyone can clearly hear that she didn't. They are so sad they lost another opportunity to hate on Aespa 😁

People are saying 2nd gen is having a resurgence. But the reality is that some Korean shows are using brave girls viral popularity to get viewers by inviting other 2nd gen groups. Just a fad which will be over by brave girls next comeback.

Hybe is wasting their time marketing TXT to the Western market. TXT songs or individual members dont seem suited for Western audience. Instead they should get the members into acting in kdramas and variety shows. And target Korea first. Enhyphen might do better in the West, already doing better but being a Mnet collab project they don't want to promote them in US.

Boygroups aren't popular in Korea anymore because their songs are not public friendly. Boygroup songs are all about dance and made for concerts not for casual listening.

The popular girl groups songs in Korea right now like dun dun danc, next level, chi mat ba ram, asap, alcohol free are not dance intensive. They have easy dance steps which public can dance to.

Kpop fans say bts recent songs like dynamite and butter are boring but these songs do well in Korea and Japan because they are radio friendly and pleasant to listen to with headphones, unlike many boygroups songs.

BTS's 2020 releases On and Black swan didn't do well in Korea by their standards because they were more like typical boy group songs.

BTS may be wary of releasing songs like On now that they are not in their peak years. Big3 companies are preparing their boygroups to debut soon after 2022 starts and bts goes on tours and leaves space for new boygroups.

Winner and SF9 songs are public friendly too. That could be why they are not that popular among international kpop fans. Why they are not more popular in Korea I cannot know. Surprising since Winner had a big hit song and are from a big3 company.

The more every other groups become "self produced", the more I doubt how much self produced their songs are. How much they are writing and composing for a song or is it just a tag given by companies to make a group more appealing to fans! The revenue made from the music rights will go to the company because the artist has contract with them and they have agreement with artists and producers on how to divide the money.

Red Velvet may have the highest number of token stans. This is only for international fans to be clear. Blackpink and Twice have competed for top spot for years while Red Velvet has been weaker than both in terms of album sales and international fans. Blinks and Onces did not get along because of the competition. Which made it easy for both fandoms to support Red Velvet as they will not have to worry Red Velvet taking their fave's spot.

Red Velvet gets lot of support and praise for their music but that doesn't translate into sales because the support is not from true fans, it is from multi stans or token stans.

I don't understand why SM added Yeri to Red Velvet. Koeun is also a 99 liner and better singer than Yeri/  Irene/ Joy. Or Jungyeon who is 97 liner, cute as hell and currently an actress would have been a better choice. She is only one year younger than Joy and Ref Velvet would have been better with her as most of them are reserved/ shy.

Yeri didn't fit with Red Velvet concepts. Ice cream cake was fine but Automatic is a sensual romantic song and not really appropriate for her at the age of 16.
