The Unpopular Opinions Thread (Read OP)

I don't know how unpopular this is but I REALLY miss the times when kpop idols would debut at an older age. Like Kahi & Jungah (After School),  Cao Lu (Fiestar), Jisung (WannaOne), Dara, Bom, Joon Park (g.o.d), Sojin (Girl's Day).

I think I realised this during PD48 when literal 13 year olds suddenly started to appear out of nowhere and when the infamous Side to Side performance happened, it just confirmed this opinion for me lol

The only way I wouldn't be weirded out by children debuting is if their group's concept is age-appropriate for them, I'm not saying they should release Baby Shark remixes either, just no Sistar 2.0 at that age.

I dunno if the problem is ONLY about the songs' concept though, it's probably deeper than that in my opinion. I guess I just don't know how to express the rest properly yet 🤔

Throughout my 12 years of being into Kpop, I now think that most Japanese releases by Kpop acts feel like an unnecessary, lazy and half-assed side project that companies just see as a quick and easy cash grab.

There's a very good reason why SNSD, Kara, Big Bang and BoA were massive and are still to this day remembered fondly. Their music is timeless, iconic and really felt like they actually gave a shit about making a career in Japan.

This is also one of the reasons why TWICE are where they are now (in Japan). They use the same simple formula that their predecessors did: Give a shit about these songs as much as you do about your Korean releases.

Queendom/Kingdom types of shows are miles better than the Produce franchise. (This is obviously for idols who've already made their debut)

I'd rather see a nugu/semi-nugu group prove themselves as a unit than have their companies send one or two members and put the others/the whole group in the back burner. Produce shows have always left a bitter taste in my mouth tbh, they're supposed to be entertaining and make everyday people forget about their worries for an hour or two but they really stress the fact that people have become very dispensable in modern day society. In Queendom/Kingdom, it's pretty much a win/win situation regardless of the final outcome; the groups get a boost of popularity whether they win or lose and get to enjoy more creative freedom in the process.

I have a lot more to say but they're all mostly negative things that are more common than unpopular about PD101 so I'll just leave it at that.
