(If I'm in charge of the label, I would've make her transition into this type of MV slower, slowly easing it in instead, like 2~3 videos down the line) I firmly believe they're being careful with it. Part of me wishes she stayed with AKB a bit longer before embarking on her flop solo career but I guess she's happier doing this so I'll support her. I understand that Tomomi most likely wanted this... I wish they would test the water a bit more, gather more data as well as building fanbase before going for this. That's all I'll say. As a result, while she did have considerable fanbase back in her AKB days, I highly doubt even half of her fans will make the transition to support her new "style". Let's put it this way "Despite her popularity, her vision in how she is to developed has always been a mismatch to AKB48, and a lot of her work of gathering fanbase in AKB are practically wasted." AKB fans was into her, she's a former Kami-7, and her ranking never drop below 11. However, as things are now. 1. She's no longer affiliated to the 48G brand, that'll lose her some support. 2. Her change of style will put off a considerable chunk of her old fanbase, another chunk of support lost. Seeing that you said her video still reminded you of E-Girls, and lets assume most Japanese feel that way, her stance would still be similar to a new-ish girl trying grab a slice of E-Girls market share. While you claim E-Girls are "Kpop with Japanese", I don't feel that way, I'm not sure how to explain it, but something about E-Girls lyrics and composition felt different. Japanese have always adopt music style of other country, add a little of their own flavor and make it their own E-Girl's music have that flavor for me, Tomomi's video doesn't. EDIT: Then again, I might be wrong about all this and Japanese people may just consume her music like they're drugs... ^ I actually pause from typing the last sentence several times, as even I cannot convince myself that there's such possibility. O_O I think she trying to be a Maki Goto/Koda Kumi style and trying to appeal to that audience....that it's completly different from the AKB one. add the fact that Girl doesn't have a great voice and she haven't been seen very well from the General public right now and we can see why her sales aren't great. It doesn't have much to do with them expecting her video to get hate, so...... AKB fans as an entity never disliked Tomochin. Some wota from the earlier days were alienated from her when she started to change her look/image. She went from the imouto type, closer to the gyaru type (she was the first AKB member to bleach her hair brown). So it never was than fans disliked her but maybe just hardcore wota fans from the earlier days. If anything, they hated the other Tomomi around the time just before her graduation.
