SM Entertainment, the talent agency behind K-pop groups such as EXO, TVXQ and SHINee, will likely increase the number of Chinese concerts its contracted acts hold, according to a leading financial analytics firm.

"EXO is gaining attention in China," said analyst Jeong Hui-seok from Korea Investment & Securities Co. "SHINee, Super Junior are also consistently gaining popularity. This year, SM is reaching out to an anticipated 350,000 Chinese concert-goers -- up 54 percent from last year."

Currently, 70 percent of SM's overseas profits come from Japan, which has been partially attributed to the weakening yen currency. TVXQ alone held six Japanese concerts as part of its ongoing world tour within the first quarter this year, which were attended by a total 650,000 fans.

However, SM chief Lee Soo-man is likely to reduce profits from Japan to 50 percent, while hoping to increase sales in China by 35 percent, said the market researcher.

"In the latter half of the year, SM will continue to expand its overseas concerts abroad, which we are already seeing in the second quarter this year," said Jeong.

I suspect it might be a bit too late for TVXQ to hold any more overseas concerts til they both come back from military service...

the rest figures though. it was always SM's intention to break into China rather than Japan but they had to reprioritise in recent years

Doesn't really tell us anything new.

"SM CEO plans to establish a subsidiary Chinese partner firm for more efficient business in China in the latter half of this year."

This is more newsworthy. Would it be something big like c&c?

China will be seenig more of EXO, TVXQ, and SHINee, if things go as planned for SM Entertainment in the second half of 2015.

Some of the most popular acts from South Korea's powerhouse entertainment agency SM Entertainment will change their focus to China, said a report in the K-Pop Herald. The report alleged that SM Entertainment's strategy for 2015 will lead the company away from focusing on the Japanese music audience, and instead focus on the larger Chinese market.

"SM recorded its highest-ever sales of 286,98 billion won ($257,822,832) last year, but business profits have continued to decline since 2012," said Jeong Hui Seok from the Korean financial analytics firm Korea Investment & Securities Co. "Since contracted K-pop groups like TVXQ, EXO and SHINee are doing well, SM is likely to increase surplus activities both in Korea and abroad."

Jeong claimed that SM Entertainment is expecting 350,000 Chinese fans to attend concerts held by SM Entertainment acts like EXO, SHINee, and Super Junior.

TVXQ's popularity in Japan previously led to much of the company's overseas profits, with over 650,000 fans attending six Japanese TVXQ concerts in 2015. However, TVXQ's leader U-KNOW Yunho will reportedly enlist in the Korean army by the end of 2015, after releasing a solo album in Japan, and Jeong claimed SM Entertainment will reduce profits in Japan in order to raise promotions and profits in China.

Currently, 70 percent of SM Entertainment's overseas profits comes from Japan.

The report said that SM Entertainment is planning a subsidary partner in China to more efficiently handle SM Entertainment business in the country. The Korean entertainment powerhouse has already set up small subsidary agencies to focus solely on the activities by f(x)'s Victoria and EXO's Lay.

Also is this a joke? After the debacle with EXO. I'm really not sure if that's going to be an easy venture. SM sure is burning bridges and now they want to go to what was across that bridge and make some money. Come on now.

I agree, they should have thought of this before chinese memembers left, at least they aren't using "we want to help spread korean culture" lie as a reason to expand into other asian countries now

With all the nonsense they've been pulling over the past few months they really have burnt a lot of damn bridges.

THEN WHY THE FUCK IS F(X) RELEASING STUFF IN JAPAN AND NOT CHINA

Because Japan generates multiple times in termns of sales revenue ,and in japan concert revenue  is also much higher than china .

China is mainly for acting.
