How many people here weren't allowed to listen to secular music as a child?

You poor souls ;A; .

I was a Spice Girls maniac during my years as a toddler. And before that I used to listened to 90's Vietnamese music.

My family was (and still is) Roman Catholic, but thankfully not to the extent as some families.

90'S VIET MUSIC WAS DAAAA BEST.

I was encouraged to only listen to classical music because my mother wanted me to be a classical pianist. I went along with this fairly happily.

I wasn't explicitly 'not allowed' to listen to pop, but my mom hated it and there was only one stereo in the house so I was never really exposed to it until I was 13 and got a beat up old radio/cassette player at a rummage sale and started listening to top 40 incessantly.

My mom being really religious tried to discourage us, but my dad is secular so he didn't give a fuck lol so in the end, we listened. My mom just hates when there's cuss words. If we're listening to the radio and someone curses, she's like "nuh uh uh- they said what?!" and makes us change the station
