Why are so many Japanese music fans stuck in the past?

There have been several conversations about this recently so I'm just taking it head on right now. I'm not talking about how some people say that listening to Japanese music internationally was a trend of last decade that has been replaced about KPop. I'm talking about people who are still thinking that the acts and the industry of 10 - 15 years ago is the same as today. People who are still stuck in the Ayu/Kuu/Namie/Utada bubble. People who still think visual kei is the main type of Japanese rock music. People who swear by Oricon only. Why have these people not moved on with the times? Especially when it's so much easier to navigate the scene now than it was years ago? Internationally, this scene has been heavily internet-based and the internet of 10 - 15 years ago is nothing like it is now. For the record, I'm not bashing anyone. I'm not saying "OMG you listen to Koda Kumi, how 2006 of you..." Listen to her still! What I'm saying is, why are you still naming her as one of the top females of today and one of the top acts of today, when none of this has been true for years?

because japanese music in the past is too good to be true

AMEN someone send me back into time in Japan in the 90s when artists like SPEED, Ami Suzuki, globe, Seiko Matsuda, were EVERYTHING and Ayu was releasing her 1st album and i'll gladly offer my soul as sacrifice.

i mean i love some new acts of today like Perfume, Ikimono gakari, sakanaction, etc but even Japanese people i meet say i know more about Jpop history dating back to the 80s then the average Japanese person.

im a 90s kid so naturally with my obsession growing up with Britney, Mariah, etc i am highly attracted to Jpop of the 90s  i didnt grow up in.

I'm one of those people. The only two jpop songs I have are from SPEED and Puffy Amy Yumi. And that's probably because I outgrew jpop. I see it something from my childhood so if I tried to go with the contemporary things it would be like an adult still trying to check out kids' things.

While I got into kpop more when I was already an adult 15 years ago.

Same principle applies to anime. I don't know anything else besides the overly hyped shows like Naruto, Bleach and Attack on Titan, and I stopped watching anime completely 7 years ago.

The funny thing is that if anything, the industry is going in a more adult direction. Most of the top acts now are over 30, even the idols. Actually I would revise that and say over 40.

And tbh Japanese visuals just don't appeal to me. Some may have nice bodies and I might check that out, but I wouldn't bother to know the idols, etc.

Why are you talking about visuals when we're discussing music? That's a problem...

That's the effect kpop had on me.

This isn't KPop though... Do you have this issue with Western music too? Like if I went by visuals, I'd be all KPop, but the music doesn't do anything for me. I can't see a visual when I'm listening to music.

I never cared much for Western music, and don't care about their visuals. I just saved a few hit songs but I never went deep.

Of both, more of visuals now.

I'm kinda lost as to why you're in this conversation to be honest... I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I think being a fan of mainly visuals in terms of music is a sign of immaturity. It's more like you're looking for fap material than an audial experience...

If you can send me back in time I'll love you forever. These new songs aren't doing that well for me personally. I'm just getting bored by the second :(

Japan has its idols, same principle as kpop, just eye candy.

But Japan has more than idols, which you clearly forgot.

Performance and visual aspects have always been a large part of music though. It's not bad or shameful if you prefer to listen to your classical music accompanied by a high production ballet performance.

I love how you're saying this as if he didn't mean tits and ass...
