Hi, i need some help with my assessment. the assessment is a roleplay to gather data and information for a scenario so i will be asking questions and my teacher will be the one providing me with the information.

He told the class that small talks before the actual talk is very important as it builds rapport with the person and the person will be more willing to give information to you, however one of my friends went in and he told my friend, "i am busy so just get straight to the point" without giving him a chance to have small talk. In the end, he got a C.

Is there a way to start a small talk with him even when he tells me to get straight to the point?

Please help

You're gonna wanna start off strong.

"Listen here asshole. I spent a considerable amount of MY time working on this assessment and getting ready for this discussion so don't you dare give me any of your bullshit about being "busy". You're going to sit there, listen, and cooperate with me on this so it goes fast and we can both be happy and go home, okay? Lets begin..."

Just kidding that's bad advice. But really just tell him you've worked really hard on this and you appreciate his time and maybe he won't say anything about being busy? Just start off with small talk like you would and if he doesn't say anything about hurrying up just continue.

ahhhh, that sort of thing.

well, i'm going to assume that he's a client and you're providing a service of some sort, which is why you need to question him and gather information on which your advice/service will be based.

if he starts off like that, say something flattering, like 'yes, you do strike me as the sort who's very industrious'. ask him about his business. that should be enough small talk, i think.
