Do argumentative essays always require counterarguments?

Sorry for making a thread that is related to studying xD

Today, I had midterm exam for English. I had to write an argumentative essay, and the topic was "Should Japan lower the voting age to 18?" I was able to write 2 reasons why they shouldn't, so I thought I did pretty good with my essay. However, 5 minutes before time is up, I realized that I forgot to write the opposing opinions. I was able to prove my points but I did not "argue" like I was supposed to. When I realized my mistake, I didn't do anything about it cuz I thought I wouldn't have enough time to rewrite the paragraphs.

The essay worths 40 points. How many points do you think I will get? xD

The exam was this morning and I'm still freaking out over my stupid mistake tbh

Nooooo making mistakes on exams is so scaryyyyy. I remember last year I wrote a language analysis essay, and I thought I did fine but I got the newspaper's political bias wrong so I used all wrong points. I freaked out and almost cried. (still got 95% for it though, but I freaked out anyway)

To answer your question, I'm pretty sure you do need to have a counter-argument and a rebuttal in an argumentative essay, but you should ask your teacher, they'll be able to tell you the specific criteria.

Maybe a just pass? Cause missing the counter arguments is like missing the 2nd half important part of the essay which makes the examiner thinks your paper is incomplete.

Don't fret, at least now you'll learn from your mistake. What I always do is set my time when I write my essays, I try not to write too much of section A (for) so I can concentrate on both section A (for) and B (against). The key is time management :)

goodluck!
