When Hedi Slimane selects a model to front a campaign for Saint Laurent, it’s more than a simple booking, it’s a vote of confidence from one of fashion’s most influential tastemakers. Slimane is less interested in a model’s stats than he is in their personalities, and in the past he’s helped launch the careers of consummate cool girls like Grace Hartzel, Julia Cumming, and Natalie Westling. For Pre-Fall, Slimane zeroes in on Helena Severin, an aptly named beauty whose severe look has caught the attention industry insiders. Hailing from Vienna, Severin was discovered spending time in Berlin at only 13, but hit her stride when she made her runway debut a few years later at Saint Laurent’s Spring ’14 show. An artistic streak is a prerequisite for any Saint Laurent muse, and Severin—much like Slimane—enjoys shooting pictures on film.

For the upcoming Saint Laurent Fall menswear campaign, the house has already started teasing images of Milos Lukacek. In the black-and-white, Slimane-lensed shots, Lukacek serves up an androgynous elegance courtesy of his many tattoos and rock-and-roll vibe—both completely in line with the Saint Laurent aesthetic. Debuting at the designer’s Fall 2013 show, Lukacek has been a part of the Saint Laurent family for two years now, and like many of Slimane’s favorite male models, Lukacek has a musical side, playing guitar and posting band pictures on his Instagram when he isn’t sharing behind-the-scenes snaps from backstage.

I am the only one that thinks they look ugly

yeah models today are more about having an unique/strange face than being good looking.

I missed the era of the supermodels.

Just because someone doesn't look basic/typically pretty, doesn't make them ugly. It really suits the brand, that's what matters.

People are within their rights to see them as both basic and ugly.

i like the female model, her facial structure reminds me of mine

i like this shift in the kinds of models that are chosen, its more realistic and represents the general population better instead of giving them insecurities and mental/health problems because of unrealistic expectations

also Hedi Slimane is awesome af
