With all the political scandals etc, the government seems to be very corrupt as well. So I would not call Korea powerful at all. The US military's main contribution in South Korea is their airforce and intel. Japan doesn't have that economic leverage. Any country would be a shrimp next to China except for countries like Russia or the US. I don't think 'powerful' in the video's context means superpower. Also, I meant saying Canada or Italy is more powerful than South Korea is arguable because it is very sensitive to the specific criteria unlike the other powerful countries that are safely above South Korea. In fact, many Koreans do not seem to objectively realize where their own country globally stands because two of their few neighboring countries happen to be among the world's biggest countries in terms of economy or military, and their older generations still have the memory of living through the poor times. One thing they didn't mention though, if the Korea united back in the 50's with the Miracle on the Han river combined with North Korea's natural recourses, Korea probably would have been significantly more powerful.
