How Powerful Is South Korea?

Even with tech giants as Samsung, LG etc, parts of Korea is still stuck in the 40s. Womens rights and general equal rights is a joke in Korea.

With all the political scandals etc, the government seems to be very corrupt as well. So I would not call Korea powerful at all. They are better off than many other countries of course, but they still lack a whole lot.

They get a large amount of their artillery from the U.S. so I wouldn't say they're very strong at all. As far as military training though, they're probably well off.

No, South Korea has very sizable armed forces of their own. The US military's main contribution in South Korea is their airforce and intel. There is no unified metric to measure the firepower of each nation (excluding WMDs) but experts usually pick South Korea within top 10.

South Korea depends way too much of foreing economies, and neighboords like Japan and China, so ... I dunno what the person in the video is talking about

A huge portion of South Korean exports go to China but Korea has been running a trade deficit with Japan for several decades. Japan doesn't have that economic leverage. Any country would be a shrimp next to China except for countries like Russia or the US. I don't think 'powerful' in the video's context means superpower.

Would you say China is not powerful because of their social problems? It seems everyone means something very different by 'powerful' here.

theyre not that powerful lol

the G8/G7/G6 (however countries are in it now) are the most powerful

US

UK

russia

canada

japan

france

germany

italy

^ compared to these countries, SK has a long way to go...

You forgot China. Canada and Italy are arguable. South Korea doesn't have a long way to go. They are well above their weight, now. It's not like they have to be or can be No. 1 superpower.

You said "the G8/G7/G6 are the most powerful (in the world)". Also, I meant saying Canada or Italy is more powerful than South Korea is arguable because it is very sensitive to the specific criteria unlike the other powerful countries that are safely above South Korea.

And why limit it to G8 or G7? Why not consider the whole world?

On another note, I did not realize South Korea is as powerful as they are.

In fact, many Koreans do not seem to objectively realize where their own country globally stands because two of their few neighboring countries happen to be among the world's biggest countries in terms of economy or military, and their older generations still have the memory of living through the poor times.

Finally TestTube did a SK vid. One thing they didn't mention though, if the Korea united back in the 50's with the Miracle on the Han river combined with North Korea's natural recourses, Korea probably would have been significantly more powerful.

SK is pretty powerful and underestimated , mostly thanks to the US, if it weren't for them SK wouldn't even exist today since NK annexed 90% of the territory in the korean war. It doesn't really matter if its thanks to the US though, they're still high and powerful and could crush NK, maybe not easily but they would win 1v1
