OK, so recently while I've been listening to my kpop on Youtube I've stumbled across C-pop artist Jolin Tsai. And I've fallen in love with her.

Seriously, she's amazing. She's been in the Chinese music industry for more than 15 years, and she still has amazing presence. She also doesn't shy away from controversy, and quite a few of her songs and videos address some social issues, such as LGBT marriage:

and this:

Plus, she worked with Japanese legend Namie Amuro:

And she still looks so young!:

And I have a question for any C-pop stans on here. What is her level of fame in China equivalent to? I suspect it's close to Micheal Jackson's level in the US or Lee Hyori's level in Korea.

She's Taiwanese.

I've heard that her peak was during the later 2000's but she's still pretty popular now.

She's well known but I'm not sure if she is as popular in China/Taiwan now as she was before, everybody knows her name but I don't think her music is as big before. I was in China in 2005 and her music videos were played everywhere, in the airport, train station, on the bus, and when Dancing Diva came out in 2006 it basically solidified her at the top. I remember a lot of older people didn't like it when she switched a sexier look and got plastic surgery though but it didn't harm her because she only got bigger.

I guess you can say her popularity is comparable to Lee Hyori's yeah

With the younger generation she's not hugely popular but i think much more with women in mid 20s to 30s. That's natural though since her fanbase was originally younger girls and they've grown up with her.

She's a great artist though. ;)

The term queen is so odd, they have such completely different styles and fanbases it's hard to compare them. I'd say they're both great stars in their own right.
