more people speak Mandarin , and if china is in top of the world economy then having Chinese as the common language right .

Spanish 329M

English 328M

Portuguese 250 M

Arabic 221 M

Hindi 182 M

Bengali 181 M

No, it's too hard. At least English is easy.

ughmm...if I am right...more people can speak English than Mandarin though many of their native languages are different...For example in India most states have their own language but most can speak English...

I can see it happening in the future but it's not gonna happen anytime soon. Too many things rely on english. I mean u don't see any web-domains in Mandarin  I'm sure it will change eventually though.

I can see it happening at least in African countries , cuz they already speak English as the first language and with how their bonds with china get more deepened I think most African countries would have Chinese as second language .

Mandarin is a bitch to learn to read and write.

And this is only numbers for native speakers. If you counted the number of people in the world who speak English as a second or third language the number of speakers would greatly increase. So I think over all English is used much more internationally.

french is not even in the top 10
schools in my country could've teach us a more useful language than it :omgwtf:

I never liked french , it was my nightmare in high school , I wanted to learn Spanish but I was the only one who choose Spanish so they forced me to take french with the rest of the class
