I've never found Namie's discography to be impressive but this album along with "Past<Future" and "Play" are the exceptions. This album is a huge step up from the disasters "Uncontrolled" and "FEEL". In a way it does sound reminiscent of "FEEL" in that it's Top 40 sounding but it's more polished. Her English is cringeworthy at times but that can be forgiven. I wish she would tone down the English lyrics too because sometimes her Engrish ruins the song. I miss the 'Japanese-feel' songs. Anyways, I still can't wait to hear the whole thing. Even though I can't judge by listening to teasers, it doesn't feel as immediate and impactful as FEEL but I'm loving Birthday which does sound like her celebrating her independence from her contract. Love Golden Touch, Stranger, Anything, Fly (another independent song) and I want to hear more of Space Invader. I was hoping for something more urban, but nonetheless there sounds like there will be a good song or two on the album. Just want to add my two cents after reading what people have had to say both on OH and elsewhere. I think it's weird to complain that Namie sounds mainstream. If it's not your favorite thing, then I totally get that. But knocking Namie for sounding Western/top 40 when she's always incorporated current trends to some extent seems strange to me. The previews deliver the throwback/dance sound she was promising while still managing to sound current and really fun, which is more than you can say for some other mainstream releases in Japan this year. Based on just the previews this is a huge improvement from FEEL, incorporating the personality/style that people were wanting after that album released. Namie sounds even more confident than she has for the past few releases and the production work on these songs is top notch. She still has a few English problems, but overall, there an improvement.
