Do you think cover albums would be a good idea in KPop?

This has become a trend in Japan and has done wonders for some people's careers. Covering old songs has created the best selling releases in the careers of some acts and has opened them up to new audiences outside of their normal one. So do you think a nugu or someone who isn't really popular outside of their fanbase could benefit from an idea like this?

Like in Japan...

The amount of sameyness of Korea covers are on another level tbh. Using shows like I Am A Singer and Immortal Song as references, some songs have been covered 4-5 times. And everyone and their mother has covered A Goose's Dream, Heeya, and Sad Farewell.

Plus I feel like Korean acts (especially idols) would be reluctant to cover pop songs in their own way and it would result in the majority ofmthe album being samey ballads that everyone else has covered as well.

I'd rather not see cover albums but if they're going to pretty much reinvent the song and make it so much better than the original then go for it. Kuu has done it with Megumi no Hito, BE MY BABY and Pink Spider

lol NO absolutely not.

The reason for why this is done in Japan is because, although CD album sales have gone down very much and keep decreasing fast, there is still a decent sized market of old people buying CD albums in Japan.

Therefore, by making a cover album with lots of "good old songs" that old people like, a new artist can make these old people buy that CD. And those same old people wouldn't give a fuck about buying a new studio album from the same nugu artist.

However, in Korea it's not like that. Everyone stopped buying CDs long ago and only listen to music digitally. It's really only the fans that still buy CDs. Therefore a cover album wouldn't sell at all.

Look at how much Cho Yong Pil's album sold though. I don't think the same people buying idol albums are buying his album. Older people are buying his album.
