Baltimore Police "Abduct" Protester on National TV

In this video (broadcasted as b-roll on CNN) a singular protester is seen walking the streets of Baltimore. He's shouting but he is not attacking anyone (you can't clearly hear what he is saying).

The police then drive one of their vehicles in front of the media's camera--almost obstructing the shot--and four officers bum rush him as his hands are raised. The other officers close ranks around them and when the vehicle passes, the protester is gone.

Social Media has gathered that this man's name is Joseph Kent and he is a Morgan State student. Most protesters/activists/organizers are tweeting with the hashtag #WhereisJosephKent to locate his whereabouts

Just because he's not doing anything other than shouting in the video ... doesn't mean he wasn't up to something beforehand ... I'd like to hear the cops' side of the story.

me too, I want to know what he could've possible been doing to deserve that. I actually would like to know that he's alive and safe but so far the police has not released any information about this situation...

No, fuck that. The whole Baltimore situation is idiots taking advantage of someone's death to riot, steal and loot. These people have no moral ground to stand on. They will get no sympathy from me. Round them all up and put them in prison where they belong.

They're not protesters, they're thieves and looters. They're completely in the wrong. When you give up peaceful protest, you give up the righteousness of your cause and the sympathy of the public.

This is not about Joseph Kent anymore.

Do you mean that the protesters have lost their meaning? They are protesting the death of Freddie Gray, the man who had his spine snapped while in police custody. Joseph Kent, the man in this video, is a protester who was rushed by police (presumably for being out after curfew).

Found an article dated Dec. 2014 about Joseph Kent (disclaimer: the Baltimore police and CNN--who took this footage--still haven't divulged any information about this man I am just going off pictures and social media that identified the protester in the above video as Kent) from MSNBC. It confirms that Kent has been an active member of protests before this one. It's not a lot of information but it suggests that Kent organized his Morgan State peers for the Justice for All march in DC.

fuck off with that, there are a lot of genuine protesters there and some people were even helping to dissipate the fights and clean up the town

alien entities came from outer space and disguised themselves as police men in order to abduct their weekly african american specimen

is this a ribbing at the wording I used? The protester disappeared so quickly, abducted was the only word that seemed to fit the description of what happened. What's more is that CNN and the Baltimore Police haven't said anything about it. CNN's lack of coverage is astounding particularly because it happened on their live broadcast...

maybe bcuz nothing happened to him or he just got arrested for something he did/said? the camera is very tricky here, it doesnt show everything after what happens and you cant hear the audio.

like what the heck is cnn going to do, go heckle the police into telling them where that random black guy went? make a big fcking deal about it and cause more public outrage over something thats probably nothing? that would only lead to more rioting probably. lol maybe if fox was there we would have some entertainment but cnn are boring.

people are acting like the police took him to area 59 and are doing experimentation on him as we speak with that whole hashtag nonsense

hes probably either in a jail cell, was in a jail cell and is released, or was just let go.

UPDATE: tweets from @BeattyLaw (said to be an attorney in Baltimore tracking Joseph Kent with the intent to represent him against any charges)

eta: unfortunately I cannot confirm any of this, although I do hope everything is okay

Uh...reporters often "heckle" police about lesser things.

I don't understand why this instance would be any different. Ignoring the severity of this whole situation wrt the Baltimore Uprising that would've been a great [breaking] story to follow.

eta: Frankly most people with empathy are behaving accordingly. Because of social media people are realizing how quickly people go from alive to dead while in police custody or while in the presence of police.

Apparently, reporters were allowed to be out. So why not approach the police and at least ask what was happening. It seems like sloppy journalism to me.

journalism in itself is sloppy af especially when you work with big news outlets. there wasnt even a field reporter there, just cameramen.

go start ur own journalism group and then you can go and heckle the police all you want

LOL, you caught my college major. And frankly you seem so dumb. You're out here worried for the police and property but can't understand why people would be worried for this protester. This kid was nonviolent--like you want him to be--he's rushed by four officers and then he's gone. He was in Baltimore in the first place because a man had his spine severed while handcuffed and in police custody.

People are afraid for his life, they have plausible reason to be. He was snatched on TV and a lot of people cannot trust that he will be safe based on experience. A singular follow up from any of the reporters there would've done wonders to put this to rest but there's been nothing.  CNN who captured the footage hasn't spoken on it since it aired at 10:39 EST. Just people on Twitter trying to figure it out for themselves. They are working themselves up trying to get answers from people who just don't seem to care. Why is it so ridiculous for me to want a journalist to follow up on this? It is journalism's job to get answers for questions like these.

Furthermore your language is so antagonizing. Going up to the police and asking them where they were taking that man and why is not heckling. It's asking a question.
