I know this is often brought up, I just wanted to see what other people think atm.

I only got in K-pop 4 years ago, in 2011, so I wasn't here for the majority of the so called "golden years", but 2011 in itself was a great year for K-pop. Also, 2012 was good too, even though everything was overshadowed by GS. But as a fan of older groups, I went back and tracked everything, and I honestly do agree that 2007-2011 were the best years. Everything nowadays feels so recycled, done too many times already, new groups bring nothing new to the table really, they only add to the already severe oversaturation of the market.

I mean, look at how many girl groups debuted with that same sound and innocent concept just in the past few months..

What do you think? Is the future of K-pop grim? Do you care or nah?

kind of, but kind of not

i mean 2012 was a bomb ass year for me personally and was jam packed with so much fuckin jams and then 2013 kind of fell flat in comparison and as did 2014 but that does not mean that 2013 and 2014 was completely starved of good songs.. like those years had a good amount of good jams and 2015 is going off to a nice start(i've bought two albums this year!)

No. Because these are the people are not able to appreciate artwork by its own merits without holding to the artificial standard of the yesteryear. The same kind with those on youtube videos of classic songs ranting about how music used to be 'good'. If we go by that logic, music would be hitting different sized sticks together and all painting would be stick-figure antelope on rock faces.

No I don't agree, maybe you aren't stanning the right groups.

I was talking about K-pop overall..

I am stanning the right group for me, so thanks, but no thanks.

kind of, my faves debuted in 2012 (when the swarm of rookies debuted) but I feel it was more fun to be in an idol fan in the early 2000s (DBSK/Jewelry time) to around 2011. There were a lot more opportunities for even less known idols but these days it feels like everything comes down to company power or pure luck.

I prefer the songs now, but a lot of the concepts are getting old. It's due to over-saturation of the industry, but also...a lot of people have been around for so long in the K-POP community that the magic of discovering such a new and exciting thing that none of your friends or family know about has probably worn off. when I first found SHINee, I felt like I had so many groups and variety shows and dramas to explore. now that I've been around for a while, I feel like I know it all and everything that should be considered new is actually old and recycled and blending together with the last "new" thing.

Nope.

I've been into KPop since 2007 and the things that I only noticed that has changed are the styles, outfits and makeup style of the idols and there were also more groups now than before so, the more, the merrier.

You really wrote that well, I couldn't agree more.

I think K-pop is heading for a good year. A lot of the rookies from 2-3 years ago are stepping up and producers are learning from all of those unsuccessful debuts from 2011-2013. The oversaturation is still a problem, but it's not like it can really stop any time soon.

Praying for Pledis.

I think that before, title tracks were better, in the sense that more artists released jammable title tracks.

Since 2013, k-pop has been slacking in that aspect. Apparently, the songs that matter kept hidden in albums and only few artists released great title-tracks.

I only got into k-pop in '13, but the title tracks beforehand were much better than now.

There's only a few title tracks that I actually like these days instead of skipping over when they come on. The b-sides however, have improved.

To an extent I was a bit more simpler back then compared to now but I guarantee the nostalgia we feel now about those old pre-2011 throw backs is the same way we will feel in the future towards the song that are out and be like 2015 was kpop at it's best and everything now sucks and blahblah. That's just how music in different generations work

IMO the pure pop (as in no fusion stuff like edm, dub step, electro and all that) songs from earlier were really catchy and easy to get into, the hook songs especially which stand up as some group's most famous and well loved songs even today.

Plus back then idols were everywhere from guesting on TV shows to having their own series, nowadays even groups like SNSD or Suju which were always in request as variety stars only appear in one or 2 shows unless they get their seperate own series.

Also a lot of users probably have a great sense of nostalgia, especially as they were discovering something new and different.

So yeah I kinda miss the good old days lol.

No, every single year I hear people saying how terrible the current songs are and how they wish they went back to the year before. I don't really care for the "iconic" kpop songs like Gee, Sorry Sorry, Mirotic, RDD, Nobody etc etc either.

The only thing that I preferred back then were the variety shows and how the gayos had funnier special stages, but I'm not in for shows so...

nope ...

because people complained about 2007 and now they appreciate it ...

people complained about 2009 now they appreciate it

people complained the MOST IN 2012 and now they say it's one of the best year ...

Preach.

It's always like this. In five years people will complain and say that 2015 was the best year.
