Seolhyun has double eyelids, but she has natural double eyelids meaning they're not very pronounced (like Suzy or model Irene Kim). So sometimes you can't see them. Usually only people who did a double eyelid surgery have them visible at all times.

FNC's biggest problem is that they don't think about Seolhyun's longevity at all. When you have primarily male fans your popularity is very fragile, because they're not loyal and will quickly run to the newest pretty idol (hence the Tzuyu comparisons). Seolhyun needs female fans. That's why fansites are important. In fact I feel like if she'd have more female fans she'd have more people defending her in all those articles where she gets bashed. But her image is way too sexy and sexualized that it turns female fans off.

 

I really hope that the movie she shot with Kim Namgil does well and that she has a prominent role in it. But again, a drama is what she needs because it reaches a bigger public (unless the movie is huge like Introduction to Architecture which I don't think it will be bc of the plot). But it sucks that even if she's in contention to any drama she gets negative response, and honestly she's not a bad actress per se, I'd say she's just mediocre. Best thing would be to get a supporting role soon.

@Reiz : I know exactly what you mean haha. It's actually the same in the west. That's why I really hate it when my fave eastern/western female models/actresses/singers do GQ mag shoots. Men's magazines love milking the innocent sexy look, totally shot from the male gaze.

 

@Hugeboi : Atm Seol's unique selling point in the advertising world is her ability to sell the innocent/sexy look. JYP's doing the exact same thing with Tzuyu which really grosses me out since she's a minor. The blank look is very 'safe' to market so I get why advertisers & editors select that.

 

When Hyeri blew up with her aegyo, 99.9% of her CFs had bubbly aegyo in it too & after Reply her tomboy Duksun look meant more girl crush and fresh appealing ads. Suzy had the standard Yoona-ish innocent image CFs & now she's going for that actress image her jewellery CFs are more luxurious/confident looking.

 

I loved Seol's shoot with her sister a lot since it had that playful sleepover dress up vibe to it. It looked fashion forward yet cute!

 

The Cosmopolitan shoot is my favorite shoot she's done. But I have high hopes for the Marie Claire one, I'm glad they chose a closeup for the cover.

It's precisely bc of those ridiculous shippers that I want SJK to acknowledge Seolhyun in a way. They need a reality check. You don't have to resort to bashing a woman just to prop up your ship.

Do Somi stans not get that they're comparing a minor to a grown ass woman? It's like they're totally ok with her being sexualised as a minor and even participate in it. Disgusted af.

 

I'm really surprised that no one points out the sexualization of Somi's image.   Not just by fans, but in general. People were up in the arms about Tzuyu (and they were right) but she's two years older than Somi. Somi was recently put in a seriously revealing outfit yet nobody talks about that.

You can't really compare Jeon Jihyun to Seolhyun though. Jeon Jihyun is a huge actress with several representative works. When people say that Seolhyun is receiving the IT girl image based on nothing much, it's technically true. She doesn't have a hit drama or a movie to back it all up.

 

I feel like this will really follow her for a long time. It's precisely what all those people hating on her waited for. I hope I'm wrong but idk.

Are these the only standards for being an it girl? Is it written somewhere that you have to blow up with a movie/drama? I know acting gives much more of a stable career in the industry but what about her rising CF star status? We all know she blew up with SKT but she is now endorsing for more brands and can even be put along with the likes of Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki for brand power. I dont know I feel like this "she has no representative work" narrative is getting a bit old. I recall Yoona blowing up only because of her visuals, basically nothing else. Her drama with Jang Geun Seuk didnt do well and she was never known to be a good actress...yet she became an it girl. I just dont get it.

 

About Seolhyun. Nobody knows how this will turn out. I'm actually praying her movie will come out at the end of AOA promotions and she will shut her haters up.

I'm just saying that it would help. And no, Yoona didn't technically blow up with just her visuals. Yoona blew up with You're My Destiny, a daily drama way back in 2007 that was incredibly popular (despite her sucking as an actress). Sadly enough, it's still considered to be her representative work after all these years.

Why are they so focused on Seolhyun though? It's Jimin who called him the Japanese name (and she just repeated what the PD said). It's pretty clear that these people couldn't wait for a "valid" reason to finally hate on her.

Her career will definitely take a hit with this but don't act as if this is what destroyed her IT girl status. It was gone with the history scandal. We'll see what happens when the Kim Namgil movie is released (do we have a release date?).

Seems like seol's new movie would be released soon (not sure tho coz I saw this in other forums, no sources or anything, but the guy who posted this apparently knows Korean and follows all aoa-related news.) I hope this is true I've been waiting for so long

Yeah, I was looking at AsianWiki and there's still no release date. It's super weird because they filmed it last year and usually Korean movies get released pretty fast (at least compared to Hollywood productions for example). I hope it's not a bad sign that it's taking this long for it to get released. The main actor is quite respected though, maybe they're pushing for a Christmas release.
