Wasn't he someone's guest?

No idea I just remember seeing pictures of him being there.

I really think the participation of Chinese stars from this point really starts to show how China is slowly becoming an important market for Hollywood.

"Chen Kun and Wu Yifan will be the representative Chinese male stars at this year's Met Ball. This is also the first time Met Ball's red carpet will have Chinese male stars appearance." (cr shuaijerks)

It's doubtful seeing as how the Chanel cruise show is in Seoul the same day.

But then again the show is China themed...

He's on the official list but this is what Fashionista has to say:

One name that surprised us: Karl Lagerfeld. Because shouldn't he be at his own runway show? Cara Delevingne, who has closed many of Chanel's shows in recent seasons, is also on the list.

It makes sense that Chanel would want to have a presence at the Met Gala given its relationship to both the museum and host Anna Wintour — not to mention all the press attention the event gets. Of course it's possible that Lagerfeld will only be a host in name, and not actually present at the event. A Chanel spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.

We'll see if he goes.

And lol, why do you think it's China-themed? It's not a coincidence that it coincides with China's film industry and economy boom.

And then it will be another theme next year so I don't see a reason to get all excited. Some have said that it's China-themed because it's part of Anna Wintour's plan to bring John Galliano (who has done Chinese-themed collections) back into the spotlight.

This isn't the only reason people think the US/Hollywood is eyeing China as an important market. I take it you don't follow film industry news? A lot of Hollywood studios are either setting up sub-studios in China or co-producing movies with local studios. It's becoming a big market for them especially since it's growing fast every year. To give you a recent example, Fast & Furious 7 is set up to make $400 million dollars in its run in China.

So yeah, we can get excited without you trying to rain on the parade.

Hollywood nor China really interest me. The only reason I'm in this thread is because it pertains to Costume Institute Gala, which is related to one of my interests, fashion.

Then why try to correct someone when you don't even know anything about the market..
