Tidal's CEO Leaves Tidal, RIP Tidal

z6r5tidg8auhlxtpvtx5.jpg

Andy Chen, the CEO of Jay Z’s highly confusing and unlikable music streaming service Tidal, has left the company, along with around 25 other employees. A Tidal rep is calling these departures “streamlining†and “redundancies,†which are nice fancy words for everything going to hell. Via Business Insider, we’ve got the official company statement:

TIDAL’s new interum [sic] CEO is Peter Tonstad – a former CEO of parent company Aspiro Group. He has a better understanding of the industry and a clear vision for how the company is looking to change the status quo. He’s streamlining resources to ensure talent is maximized to enhance the customer experience. We’ve eliminated a handful of positions and refocused our company-wide talent to address departments that need support and cut redundancies. TIDAL’s offices globally will remain and grow: we are already hirinig for several new positions now. We’re excited about our future and what’s in-store for fans who want the best listening experience.

has left = asked to step down

departures = layoffs ...

the layoffs are not really a sign of things going to hell though. It's not unusual for this to happen after a company has been acquired... especially when it has been acquired and then revamped/refocused.

But from what i've read about Chen and then read about Tonstad. Chen was out of his depth...and Tonstad has always been better suited.

I'll repost what I said earlier in the bashing thread

I have no respect for any of the celebrities backing Tidal, seeing as they show no gratitude towards their fans.

So what, you don't make much off of streaming on Spotify - but you're capable of earning a million dollars for just one show.  Meanwhile, normal people are struggling just to pay the rent.  If you had any respect for your fans, you would thank them for supporting your greedy asses instead of disgracing them for not fully appreciating "art".

The greed of these people is absolutely disgusting.

This tbh.

My sister loves Taylor Swift, and tbh I think it's annoying how Taylor doesn't allow her music to be on Spotify because she wants people to pay for her music. Like, you're only 22 and you're bathing in gold! I can understand wanting people to buy your song if you're a nugu kpop star who's in lots of debt. But if you're a successful artist in the American music industry who makes millions, it shouldn't hurt to offer your music for streaming on a website for free.

What about the producers and everyone else who helped produce her album? Should they just do it for free too? Their money comes from the royalties. Most popular artists get their wealth from endorsements not royalties.

Spotify pays 0.007 for one stream. At least half of it is taken as profit for record labels. 0.0035 is split among 3 or 4 people at least. Then for some producers like Dr. Luke, there is a team of people too.

Taylor seems pretty charitable and has donated at least an amount that she would've received through royalties from Spotify. I think, for her, it's making a statement for the little artists and also for her pride.

Very few would give a shit if Red Velvet pulled their music from Spotify. The same thing would happen even if several nugu artists pulled their songs from Spotify. The only chance for nugu artists to be paid together is if a few big artists did it as well.

As for Taylor's pride, it's easy for her to get a million streams on Spotify. Getting a million to buy the single would be an accomplishment for her.

Ps rich people shouldn't be expected to do shit for free just because they're rich. People who say that are just as greedy or maybe more than the rich person in question.
