Overpopulation

Recently in school we had to make an essay on the pros and cons of a one child per couple law.

If we were to vote on this law, would you vote yes or no?

The main reason of this law would be to stop overpopulation, starvation and other issues spawned due to too many people.

To be honest I'm not sure how I feel about it, I'm all about being able to make your own choices, but I'm also not for overpopulation.

We caused to problem and I think we should deal with the consequences and make a sacrifice to fix it. Basically what I'm saying is, the well being of everyone

should be more important than having 19 kids. This also brings up religion and not being able to use protection.

So I really don't know how I'd vote.

I wouldn't vote yes just because I don't feel like it's my right to control that kind of decision in someone's life. However, overpopulation really disgusts me and I can't help feeling that way, to be honest. When I see shows like The Duggars, I'm really baffled and turned off by the fact that people don't see what's wrong with this. There's no reason someone needs to replace themselves with 20 other people.

NO!! You can't limit the amount of children someone is allowed to have, that's unconstitutional. If the limit was higher that would be better, but it's still wrong.

No because people would kill their children until they have their ideal sex/ characteristics. It's a case of human rights.

They wouldnt kill children..thats against the law also honey.

So we should slowly drain the earth of resources until there is none left, just because of the constitution?

in a developed nation having a one child policy is useless cuz people are already having less kids due to the economy and the changes in way society works

overpopulation to me is kinda  a non-issue right now since it is just scape goat for so many other problems that could be tackled like overconsumption, even smaller countries eat and use way more than "overpopulated one"

I remember learning about the One Child Policy twice.

Talking about China, it's done a lot in improving the economy but still, a large proportion remains in poverty, plus their human rights issues are a huge problem.

Anyway, since the thread isn't restricted to China, rather than prohibit people's desire to produce offspring, the long-term solution would be education, especially women, in developing countries.

Education and family planning leads to more women going to university or other higher education institutes. Many will be focused on their careers and so many will have children later, in which case, less (increases cost and no benefit like children helping in rural areas) or none. It's been proven to be effective; it reduces the birth rate. Go look up Kerala. It also increases development of a country, which is really the main aim.

No.

We should sterilize stupid people tho.

this

Abortion isn't illegal.

People will do the same nonsense that;s been done in China and India. Then the country will have a lady shortage. In the case of India the men have apparently taken to gang-raping anything female that breathes

Is this what people want

Cause abortion isn't bad and not murder.

A fetus=/=children

They'd still be a higher abortion rate (perhaps illegal ones as well and they are incredibly detrimental to maternal health)...and people would find ways of killing newborn infants. Society is scary sometimes.

Alot of that already happens though..

And also from a story I've read, since most parents only chose to keep the male children, there is now a crisis with the current generation, in which there is something like 3 young men for each young woman...

These are the consequences of messing with the natural order, it's always hard to change things but keep the balance.

children cards.. one per couple/woman

then if peeps want more they have to trade for someone elses and people like octomom aint gonna happen

not everyone wants kids but some want multiple, it would keep population more stable

look at japan, soon 2/3 of their poppulation are gonna be senior citizens
