Why do people still fail to grasp this?

Fans don't buy physical albums so they could listen to the music, they buy it for the content that comes along with the physical releases. Posters, photocards, photobooks, postcards, you name it.

No one really listens to music by playing CDs in this day and age (it's a bit of a different story in Japan, I think). The fans who bought the physical album most likely already bought the songs online. You don't really think people are going to go through the process of ripping the music from the CD to their computers and then transferring it to their other devices? (I'm not completely sure if that's even considered legal, most likely not) Imo, physical albums are merchandise, if anything.

Now, I'm not saying great physical sales are not an amazing feat, because they are, or am I calling certain groups out (look at the pic I posted lol). Imagine all the money that Super Junior, EXO, SNSD and other groups with physical selling power made. It's very impressive. They don't even need hit songs to make them moneys.

But the misconception I often encounter is that it's all because of the music. No, it's not. The CDs probably remain untouched.

I just wanted to point that out, thank you for reading this.

I thought everyone knew that though. I mean who actually listens to a cd in 2015? Albums are more for collections, keepsakes, and just to support your bias. They're mainly a testament to a group's fandom size and fandom power, which is a very important part of kpop, being successful, and of having longevity in an idol group's career. The bigger and more dedicated the fandom, the longer the idol's career will last. But point is, ain't nobody popping a cd into a radio to play their faves. Thats what itunes is for.

No, ripping cds you bought isn't illegal.

As far as Japan goes, they do rip cds and put them on other devices. It's one reason why cd rental shops are so popular.

I actually have bought quite many kpop physical albums just because liked the songs.

Last example would be EXO Exodus album when it came out I went to listen the whole album and I really liked it so I decided to buy the physical album. I couldn't care less about the photobook or photocards when it comes to a EXO.

I just thought the album was really good so I wanted to own it as physical form. Also I wanted to show my support because I thought that album deserved to be bought.

I am also the type of person who likes to own physical copy I don't like buy things digitally because it would just feel I  spend money on nothing. I have never bought any music digitally before.

I like having a physical copy of my favourite albums mainly for sentimental reasons. That way I feel like I actually own the songs and I still like playing them in my old CD player sometimes. I don't think I've bought an album for pictures before but then again I only own one k-pop album.
