Today i was asked by a black person but i've never dated blacks but he was reallly cute but im unsure because my cousin also dated a black person but dumped her for a black girl. And now im really paranoid. I really wanna go out with him but i know my parents arent going to like that. What should i do? And also please share your experience with me. Thanks

You seem young if you're concerned with what your parents are going to think about dating a black person. Your parents seem prejudice if they won't like you dating a black person. Rather than create unnecessary drama and stress on your familial relationships. Just don't date him unless you're sure you can handle everything that comes along with it.

I doubt they dumped your cousin just because she wasn't black. If they agreed to date her in the first place.

I haven't, but I definitely would. I have racist family too and I don't give a damn what they think, especially now that I'm an adult. My stepdad has made racist comments about a Chinese guy I've dated in the past, and once I got over the initial shock of him saying what he said, I just decided that his opinion doesn't matter. Like who you want to like.

As a black person, I think that if you know that your family are racist, think twice before bringing someone (regardless of what race) into that kind of environment. But especially in this case, anti-blackness can really mess a person up, especially in a relationship.

And also if you base your judgement of a whole race on one bad experience that you heard about (didn't even experience it first hand), you probably shouldn't be dating at all, that's not a very mature world view... So I'd say probably don't date this guy, he probably has enough going on.

Black people are just people except our melanocytes are more active and our hair is a little magical!

I'm black and when I had a white boyfriend once, I was a little stressed out over what my family would think. But in the end, no one made a big deal about it except my brother making stupid comments- but he always makes those anyway, I just had to continue my policy of ignoring him when he says outrageous things- problem solved.

Truthfully, you will probably encounter some cultural differences here and there- depending on your respective backgrounds. But as long as you like them as a person, that might just become one more interesting thing to learn about them. In the end, people are individuals so no matter what race, just judge the person on a case-by-case basis.

No, actually I don't know any black person.

Date who you want, though, don't let your parents' racism affect you.
