[DISCUSSION] How does the reputation of a group influence you?

I'm curious whether there are people that care more about the reputation of a male/girl group or not.

If groups have a "bad" reputation (not necessarily talking about bullying) or rumours or filled with prejudices because of their company, do you tend to give them a chance if it seems they could interest you musically or talent-wise or you just pass?

We know sometimes reputation doesn't always define a single group, but it sometimes changes how kpop fans see that group.

Did it never happen to you? That you want to support a group but then find out "oh, this group had this issue... better not"?

I was just thinking about it, and i think it would be interesting to discuss it ^^

Reputation itself doesn't bother me, but if that group did some shit I don't agree with then I'm not gonna stan them. I'd have to seriously disagree tho, otherwise idc much.

Well I stan Lovelyz, who has a sort of bad rep for "copying" the cutesy, feminine concept, so I wouldn't say rep matters much, but I'm very proud of Mamamoo's rep as one of the best vocal kpop groups. But overall, if the group makes good music and have entertaining members, I don't mind the rep.

I'd still listen to the song if I like it, but I wouldn't "like" the group and wouldn't be a fan (following their comebacks, watching their shows, supporting their other works etc.) I don't think you have to like the group to like the music.  But it really depends on what the reputation is and how I feel about it. If they've done something that I think is really bad, then I won't listen to their songs no matter how good it is because I just don't want to help support them in any way unless they've fixed their error.

nah idc as long as music's good & they at least somewhat funny

really i do care more about the fandom. for example i can't bring myself to like bap/nu'est/infinite etc bc i know so many of these fans IRL and they're all p annoying. same with RV, they've just debuted but their fanbase is kinda.............. or well 80% of it.............. OH is kinda helping me get rid of this tho bc there's a lot of chill fans on here

I stan firstly for music but it will affect me if you are a racist, a rapist, a homophobe or a pedophile (or just a really, really bad person by my personal estimation, say someone that habitually takes advantage of or hurts others and shows no sign of change or remorse).

If I like everything about you (your music, your style and what I can see of your personal culture) and then out of the blue you fall into one of those categories, I probably won't stop liking the music I already liked but I will not be able to continue as your fan.
