Serenee 3,730
I have heard a lot of times people describing songs as "public friendly' or 'not public friendly'. I'm wondering how this 'public friendly' thingy works. Like, is there a certain gender or concept of the song that is called to be public friendly? Or public friendly means just doing good on charts? I'm genuinely asking.

oppaarrr 4,601
Probably because of the lyric. IMO many idols have catchy songs but the lyrics are nonsense, so people tends to stop listening to it.

Ash- 6,668
Choreo + concept tbh. A public friendly song is something any age range can enjoy and not feel uncomfortable with so maybe not something too suggestive or sexual? XD
Snek 3,380
For some people non public friendly songs are songs from their faves that flop on the charts and public friendly songs are songs from acts they dislike that slay the charts Nah but my interpretation of a "public friendly song" doesn't really have anything to do with the concept, i believe the sound of the song is ultimately what makes a song public friendly. What kind of sound am i talking about? that depends, it could be something that's currently trending in Korea e.g RnB and Hep Hap or it could be something that's generally liked by the mass such as catchy pop songs or slow emotional ballads. Non public friendly songs would be songs that sound unique and is generally not popular in Korea such as rock.
Lexi.K 3,161
Public friendly would mean a song that doesn't take much risks (like too much breakdowns or a harsher sound) and is liked by the public.

lvy 2,341
I dont think BIGBANG's Lies is a basic song in Korea in 2007 Basic to me means the song doesn't have anything uncommon going on that could alienate the average listener, they usually have a similar progression and seem "familiar". It's something all popular songs have in common..?? Most songs played on the radio are pretty basic, that doesn't mean they're bad. Why are y'all even offended
♩ ♪ ♫ ♬ 730
a song that's in the vocal range of the public so they can hum/sing to it.. with nice hook/chorus a song that's pretty but not too artsy (too hard to understand)
Miss.Miss 8,896
I think a lot of it has to do with timing and how well the majority of the public can relate to the lyrics and emotions portrayed through the song. The songs that fit the seasons tend to do well and songs that reflect some sort of universal feeling (so many love songs) in a way that's easy for everyone to understand and relate to. You also have the viral songs that tend to capture or create new trends for a while but it's always hard to recreate that success again. Having recognition is also important because even a public friendly song could go unnoticed if it's not promoted properly and majority of people don't even realise you exist. dragonfly0915 3,245
Public friendly usually means a combination of appealing to the broadest possible audience and also being easily acceptable and/or memorable to listeners. Just because a song is public friendly doesn't mean it will necessarily become popular though, and not all popular songs are necessarily public friendly ones. It's a factor that increases the likelihood of a song catching on, but it's not a guarantee. Ultimately the artist's notoriety will probably influence popularity of the song the most.
