This album was cute at times, but did it give you Seiko Oomori at other times?

reason why i loooved it, her/his voice is ahmazing couldn't really fully get into them before cuz their music was too experimental , love their new "transformation'

*also is a low key Seiko Oomori stan after Sennou became my most spinned album of 2014

Didn't you call her a try hard before?

I think the Seiko soundalike is his sister.

yesss, her peppy anime like off the wallness screams trying hard to become YUKI/Shiina, so many of this up and coming indie do it....its a bit of a cliche now

but her music slays me

I will say it's a cliche now... Everyone wants to be Jun/YUKI/Ringo or YUI.

Alright - I feel like I've had enough time to sit with this.  To be clear, this list only includes things which have actually been released in the first quarter of the year, even though there are things I've heard that might have made the Songs list otherwise.

Albums:

1. Southern All Stars - Budou

aramajapan_budou-cover.jpg

1. FOLKS - SNOWTOWN

3. Ohashi Trio - PARODY

aramajapan_parody-cover.jpg

Honorable Mentions:  Tokunaga Hideaki - VOCALIST 6, (((Sssurrounddd))) - See You, Blue

Songs:

1. Ohashi Trio - PARODY

2. Southern All Stars - Iya na Koto Darake no Yo no Naka de

3. Shonan no Kaze - Bubble

This MV is both terrible and simultaneously fits the Japanese Bubble era very well:

Whoa SAS beat out FOLKS? I thought it was good but not at that level.

Look carefully - I tied them.  Basically, I'm not yet at a point where I'm comfortable distinguishing, and to really break each down to that level I'd need... well, weeks of listening to them together.  Which would make this thread out of date by the time I was done.    In essence, I need the novelty of the SAS release to wear off and simultaneously need to consider each on every level against the other once that happens.  I've a feeling "SNOWTOWN" probably will jump ahead, but it's not something I can say with confidence until a bit further on.

LOL my reading comprehension sucks! But yeah I can definitely understand why.

For me, I'm waiting until this one album has its novelty fade away before deciding. I do think that FOLKS has to have one of the strongest, if not #1 album of the year though

If I was forced to choose I'd probably name the FOLKS mini-album as my top choice, though I'd rather be absolutely sure before I do so.  If anything, a real challenge to "SNOWTOWN" is probably going to come from the cero and Mr.Children albums due out in late May and early June, since those are the releases that are blinking brightly on my radar.

The Mischil might be the first one that I actually like from them, all things considered haha.

There were some strong contenders to FOLKS that I listened to, surprisingly

Well, to be fair, what full albums have you actually listened to from Mr.Children before?    You'd probably like a lot of their mid/late-90s and early 00s stuff, honestly.

I think that FOLKS will be getting a lot more competition for me in the second quarter of the year, since I have Misuchiru, cero, Shonan no Kaze, Hamada Shogo, Superfly, and such all releasing albums (three of those on the same day -_-).

A bit, but only really in passing - it's that stupid ballad trap you were talking about! LOL My problem is that their lead singles I come across are always the ballad trap. I've been trying to change after you recommended some but it's a hard habit to break, so I'm hoping this new album will bring some wonders for me.

But yeah, this year is tough. They're holding up though
