I secretly believes that Tukutz's sassiness stems from the time Blo and Mitrha dissed him on FAQ. I dont believe that his wounds are healed yet. That Cyworld verse was preeeeety hurtful.

Haha did anyone watch Tablo and Tukutz on the first ep of Strong Heart? Tablo's story was about how it was Tukutz' fault that EH got banned from a lot of radio shows right before they started promoting Fan bc Tukutz kept saying stuff they were told to avoid on air.

I never watched that many EH interviews back in the day, but I was watching some old mapthesoul behind the scenes vids last month and Tukutz has hand a handful of situations where he ends up flipping off the others cause they're messing with him, and he also seems to be the first to break into giggles during interviews. lololol oh Tukutz.

Interestingly, the inclusion of a lot of YG producers was actually Tablo's request (http://www.icaruswalks.com/121123-epik-high-in-elle-magazine/) - they were determined to make an upbeat album (partially out of a promise Tablo made to his dad), but everything they wrote was depressing. I'm not very fond of 99 either but I take it as more of an emotion purge they needed to get out of their system so that they can move beyond those few years rather than a change in their overall direction.

 

In the spring-ish episodes of Superman is Back, Tablo mentions that YG's actually been pushing for him to finish the album for a while but EH didn't want to release anything they didn't think was perfect. If there are any YG-related delays, I would hope that it's probs because EH isn't backing down about what they think are the best track listings/singles. 

 

I think what I want the most out of this album is a return to their old featuring artists. ughhhh there were so many good artists included in Fever's End, so it's not like YG is incapable of letting them work with EH.

I didn't mind Taeyang's featuring on Tablo's album nor Lee Hi on 99.

 

I also would not mind Kang Seung Yoon.

Ooooh, KSY would be really interesting! I'm sometimes "eh" about his voice on WINNER stuff but I came across a John Legend cover of his recently and he totally killed it. *o*

I love Lee Hi's voice but I felt like it was in an unflattering range for her, which made me wonder if she was kinda pushed into "It's Cold". But whatev, I could just be overthinking haha. Tbh out of all the YG artists, I'd wanna see the girl from AkMu do some featuring like she did for "Umbrella". Not many singers in YG have that pure, bright tone and I feel like she gets overlooked a lot. :( I guess I'm not against YG artists featuring... I just want to know that they're featured because they're the best artist for the part, without any influence of YG himself in the decision making.

 

In terms of favorite songs, "Fallen Blossoms" is one of my go-to's when I'm trying to introduce people to EH's lyricism.

 

I've also been reaaaally digging the Lovescream EP lately.

This project has a deeper meaning as MYK from one-man-band, Salt N Pepper, who is receiving the limelight in the indie scene and a family-like friend to Epik High, took part in it.

but more than half the features are yg pretty boys. i like the zino and vj features and if they got ANY of the movement crew or basically any non-idol rappers i dont think some ppl would be complaining. the chorus was grating to listen to but the beat and everyone else's verses were great. bi and mino felt like they were shoe-horned into this song. none of you have ANY problems with a HUGE chunk of the song given to promote these idols? at this point yg's shoving them down our throats. only bobby delivered.

 

otherwise im satisfied with the song. tukutz did em solid. mv's concept and everything was great as well.

I was actually very impressed with Mino- he and Bobby definitely earned their place imo. B.I wasn't bad but idk, I was hoping he'd leave a stronger impression. I'm waiting for translations before I cast a final judgment tho.

 

I think the features are more reflective of EH's current desire to mentor the next generation's talent. Pre-hiatus, Tablo was pretty vocal about some of the shortcomings of the idol music industry, so it's pretty interesting seeing how EH's position in YG has been slowly influencing things and bridging the underground/mainstream. 

 

 (if winner's seunghoon were tossed in there, then I'd accuse YG of interfering haaah... sorry winner fans.)

I just listened to Born Hater and quite liked it (especially Mithra Jin's rap) and wanted to have a listen to some of Epik High's other songs so wondered if there were any songs in particular you guys would recommend I listen to first? Thanks

 

"One" and "Umbrella" were the songs that first got me into Epik High.

 

 

 

 If you liked "Born Hater", you'll also probs like "8 by 8 Parts 1 & 2" or "420" (10th anniversary song).

 

 

 

 

As for songs without music videos, I second "Pieces of You" rec! Tablo wrote it for his dad... D; I also reaaaally like "Fallen Blossoms" and "Mr. Doctor". 

 

 

 

"Remapping the Human Soul" is their best-known album, so that's a pretty good place to start.

It makes me glad to see them still performing "One". I'll forever have a soft spot for it bc it was the first Korean song I got hooked on. 

 

On a personal note, my "Shoebox" CD finally arrived! I was super excited to pick it up from my apartment's front desk later in the day (a definite pick-me-up after a rather frustrating iKON/Mix & Match morning), only to find out that today just had to be the random day that the front desk closed early. OTL thanks life, thanks...

Oh, I was at the LA concert too! SOOO GOOOOD, but ended waaaaay before I expected. I have the set list and some shitty fancams that I can upload later lel, but it says a lot about the breadth of their work when they get through ~20 songs but still didn't manage to get through all my favorites.    They did some medleys (like a "Get Out The Way/Top Gun/Light It Up" combo in the beginning, and "It's Cold"/"Umbrella") and would sometimes omit verses so that they could get through more material. Though I would've liked to hear the full song, I think it was a smart move time-wise and it all flowed together really well.  

Also, thanks for the Genie segment, etching!!! We didn't have that. in terms of MC segments, we had the usual intros (of course), a "love letter" thing where they list random shit they love about North America, a Tukutz dance cut, a portion where they kinda rib Mithra for details on his love life (but ultimately get no info, ha). And some skit/banter stuff between "It's Cold" and "Umbrella, and during Tablo's solo portion.

 

Highlight of the show: Tukutz telling the the audience that LA needs to be more moist.

Sup y'all. Soooo I have a Custom Awards Form that I wanna use to get a DJ Tukutz badge. We actually voted on a badge during Awards Change Season earlier this year, but since nobody had a CAF, we couldn't actually submit it along with Mithra and Tablo's updates. :/
