Is new X-men movie going to be the last successful one?

Jean Grey

Hugh Jackman posted a photo of his hands with "WOLVERINE...ONE LAST TIME. HJ". I think he also mantioned in few interviews that this going to be his last Wolverine movie (he will also be in X-men Apocalypse). But also Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) said this going to be her last X-men movie.

I don't new movies will as good as previous ones (well Rouge was picked horribly) . I still hope they will make a movie based on X-men 92' but I still find it is hard imagine someone else as Wolverine. What do you think?

Maybe we'll finally get another X-Men movie (after First Class) without having Wolverine shoved down our throats.

J-Law leaving is a nonfactor because Rebecca Romijn could always come back (the latter was great as Mystique anyways so I don't care either way).

X-Men 2 is pretty much the only decent one out of the original trilogy. X-Men 1 aged horribly, and X-Men 3 speaks for itself.

No, if Apocalypse is as good as DOFP then it would solidify the rebooted series. While Lawrence is leaving, I don't think it will actually cause people to stop watching. As for Jackman, is been coming for a while, I just hope his writing out is logical.

Highly doubt it.

I'm 100% positive that comic book lovers are waiting for Marvel & FOX to work out a deal to have the X-Men come back home. If that does happen, you can bet your bottom dollar that it'll be just as successful or more.

I don't think Marvel wants X-Men back, maybe at one point years earlier but definitely not now. They seem to be pushing their Inhumans (a movie lined up + introduction in AoS and Avengers 2 through Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch) and it wouldn't make sense for them to have two sets of similar plot devices promoted. It would be a team kill for Inhumans because they're really unknown anyway. I feel like the fans of the comic book X-Men would be alright with it considering the rebooted series is really great anyway.

It's only F4 that I think Marvel is still eyeing. #everybodyknows that the 2015 reboot was initially announced so FOX wouldn't have a reason to give the rights back.

I watched these movies when I was something about 10 y.o old so I can be nostological about that   (I still prefered tv show on Jetix, tbh).

I don't think so, tbh. Fox has too many projects with X-men for this to be the last successful movie. As much as I like Jennifer, she isn't indispensable because the X-men movie were successful way before she played Mystique, and I still prefer Rebecca Romijin's Mystique.

Maybe Hugh's departure will affect the movie's popularity because Wolverine is the most loved character, that's why he got a solo movie and a cameo in First Class, because people love to see him in the movies, BUT, I don't think it'll have a huge impact because comics fan like me have a lot of other favorite characters they'd like to see in action. They are still going to go to see the movie, they are still going to wait for the other projects that Fox is planning on doing, and they are still going to love the movie.

I mean, no one went to see X-men: FC because Hugh was there, we went to see it because it was a part of the story, because it showed different characters. It's nice to have movies without Wolverine everywhere once in a while. I'm pretty excited about having more X-men Origins with other characters.

Xmen doesn't need to come back to the MCU, they have inhumans anyway.

X-Men is guaranteed bank. They will always be popular fan favourites--especially Wolverine. Marvel won't give up on that guarantee for a blockbuster hit just because they have the Inhumans.

The potential arcs that they can work with widens once X-Men is back with MCU. Wolverine, on his own, has affiliations with other MCU characters. If they ever decide to reboot Captain America, they can use the Howling Commandos arc. There's also the New Avengers. This is all shit people would love to see.

I disagree, even though it will definitely make money, not only do they really not need the X-Men back (given that now they can recreate the concept with Inhumans using whatever plotlines they would like), but having them back would only make everything more bloated, decreasing the quality and integrity of their biggest attractions. I mean, Civil War is already at the brim, and by AV3 Part 1 and 2, it's going to be a clusterfuck of heroes already if they don't consider every minute detail. Marvel will not risk having their Cinematic Universe start noticeably bursting at the seams for some extra cash.

I mean, the standalone X-Men movie series which is unaffiliated with any shared universe is still having issues with having a team too large for the audience, which is why they've stuck with Wolverine to be the audience's main man for a while. They've slowly started adding a few new characters here and there but its not like the general audience cares about them yet. There's just too much going on with X-Men for Marvel to work with and integrate for them to be happy with the result. And neither would comic book fans. Half are already complaining about how Wolverine gets all the limelight and that more X-Men should start stepping up, and that's without the MCU's mega influence. How do you think that will end up when the X-Men favourites have to share 3 lines with 5 other Marvel characters? The quality of each would decrease.

I feel like a lot of your final point is based on the culture of comic books where an alternate title can be slapped on something and a different story in a different universe will go on with the very same characters. I don't think that will work with movies. Full on character reboots aren't favoured and they're only just accepted if it fits with the story a la DOFP or possibly Civil War (if you know what I mean). Those ideas just won't make sense until after the end of Phase 4 where who knows what could happen and could cause these changes in universe. Until then, trying to fit in new characters will just make the whole universe more tired and it will reek of insincerity, imo.

  • 2 weeks later...

I think the recent film DOFP saved the mess that happened in the series.... I don't think JLaw and Hugh leaving will effect the movie series. Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy leaving would probably affect it but they don't seem to be leaving. They're adding new actors playing young versions of popular characters Jean Grey, Scott Summers, Storm, Quicksilver (maybe Scarlet Witch), and now Jubliee. Oh and Gambit, there's still more to come from X-Men films
