I need a new laptop and i was thinking between the 13" Macbook Air or Asus UX305 (US$699)

The Asus US305 looks like this:

It'd only be about 150 more for the Macbook Air since i'll get discounts, etc., and i think it'll be better for Presentations (Keynote) and photo editing (Lightroom) which is likely going to be it's predominant use.

Powerpoint presentations that i do are ugly af tbh  :omg: and Keynotes are so pretty :rlytearpls:

Eh, advice??? Not going for the new Macbook tbh, it's overpriced (@US$1299) and wtf @ 1 port  :soul:

Really just depends on what you want. I got my Macbook because of the programs I wanted to use on it. I've had mine for about 4 years and it's still in good condition.

Everything is just so much easier (for me) using a Mac. Which is mainly because of the track pad. It makes it easier to navigate through different windows and programs.

Been using Mac since forever, don't have any plans to get back to PC. I only use our Sony laptop for printing something since my Macbook isn't compatible to our printer.

It really depends on your preference.

I only really print stuff for school, and i'm about to graduate, so idt i'll need that function too much.

Considering your choices, better go for the Asus.

Why? :/

I have both Macs and PCs, I prefer macs a lot for the sleek design. I use an iMac so idk about the trackpad tbh

PC. I'd switch to a Mac if I was serious in any art/media related hobbies though.

I like photography :ohbi:

I'm more familiar with a PC, would love to have a Mac, but Linux master race

i feel like a linux would be way too confusing and hard to maintain for me, though it is pretty though.

MAC for interface but PC for work since it's more compatible with softwares

I think i'll use it casually, for non-work related stuff.

I use my pc for all my art/design/music hobbies, though I pretty much dislike Apple products due to some issues that came up when I was in high school.

Nah i'm just kidding.

fyi a pc is all of the above options by the way. i assume you mean windows with pc right? :p

Windows all the way for me personally though. Partly because i'm used to it ofcourse.

I had to use an mac for a few weeks for a school project and bloody hell, that was driven me insane. I still get nightmares when I think about it, I had to use it for video edditing but it was anything but user friendly.

Luckyly I now got video software (sony vegas) on my own computer, so no more of that nonsense.

The compatibility issue is the biggest for me. Lots of programms I use don't work proper or don't work at all on an apple computer, let alone play videogames, which is also my hobby. For gaming you are basically tied to windows.

But to answer your question.. probably go for what you are being used to. I know some people that are heavily invested in professional photo editing and video editing that swear by apple.

But apple tends to be really expensive in terms of bang for buck. You get alot less 'umpf', computing power, processing power, just overall performance with the prices on apple computers. Obviously part of it is branding.

It's just so expensive and what you get in terms of specifications is just meagre in comparison imo.

PC but Macs are alright. Chromebook would prob be the worst of the three and Ubuntu is well free. You could just dual boot it on a laptop or pc. Idk about a mac.

PC/Laptop has more apps. Like someone said before I'd only get a mac if I was srs about art.

Oooh thanks for your post!

Umm, actually the only thing really swaying me towards Mac now is the set of apps they have; Keynote especially (I feel like you can achieve more polished looking presentations on it a lot easier than you would on PowerPoint) and GarageBand which are not on Windows platforms.

I have an equal number of friends on both camps, and yes, I don't want to pay too much either. But I think Mac is really pretty ><

Also,I don't see myself gaming too much; haven't done anything other than a couple of MMORPGs years ago, and the ultra book im looking at is only core M, so it wouldn't be very good for gaming at all either. ><

If you want a Mac, get it

If you want windows, then get that

Both operating systems are pretty bloated but macs usually have better specs when it comes to storage, battery, and integrated graphics which is what I assume you would want an ultrabook for.

I'm a diehard windows person but am also considering to get a macbook pro because of the insane battery life, weight and etc. Neither operating system is hard to use so I would suggest the Macbook air. I don't really know if windows ultrabooks have caught up to the Mac in performance but that may change when Intel releases skylake. Seems it'll take quite some time though.

Of course the UX305 is built insanely well and it is amazing for its price so if you really want to save the money, then gt the windows. Both are fantastic.

If you want a high spec windows ultrabook for 999 I would suggest the Dell XPS 13 or HP spectre x360
