I hope the rating is good then.

I feel like the pacing was faster than the webtoon, and its just 2 episodes. What will they show in the next 10/14 ep?

Need to change some of the character info btw, lol.

the pacing are fast

mari and sihoo are best friend and sihoo knows Jaemin since they're small

Im not sure yet if Mari and Shihoo are only best friend, or theyre already engaged. Need the eng sub first, haha.

The girl with twin ponytail, is it Soo Ri?

And Jo Ah Ra, lol. Shes very smart at playing innocent, shes really dangerous. I think Gil Eun-hye also has potential to become a big actress. Shes pretty, too. The visual of the lead actors here are definitely top class

seems that Jo Ah Ra might be paired off to Shi hoo? lol he pranked her as revenge for her bullying mari but then he said he did it because he like her

the ponytail girl name is soori

everyone are gorgeous in the drama. even the moms

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Orange Marmalade" Episodes 1-2

photo594155.jpg

Ma-ri (played by Seolhyun) is a teenage girl who also happens to be a vampire. People in "Orange Marmalade" tend to not like vampires, what with the whole blood sucking thing and war against humanity and all that. Trying to grow up in that environment, poor Ma-ri can't even be bothered to worry about normal hassles like perverts on the...tram? Subway? What exactly is that thing they keep riding on? In an alternate vampire universe, Seoul's public transportation developed in a slightly different way?

One of the odder yet interesting points of "Orange Marmalade" is the set design. Even though the action takes place at a perfectly normal school it doesn't quite look like a normal school. There's little differences that are hard to place- the colors, the spacing of the desks, even the camerawork all manage to give the subtle impression of a world that's somewhat different from our own, even if the basics are all the same.

I haven't read the original webtoon on which "Orange Marmalade" is based, but the production definitely looks like a webtoon. Note the way the visuals tend to attract attention more strongly than the actual dialogue. Much is made of the way that Ma-ri subconsciously thinks like a vampire, even if she has enough sense to not actually try and bite anyone. Jae-min (played by Yeo Jin-goo) appears to be drawn to Ma-ri's sheer shy weirdness- which makes for a simple yet beguiling romantic premise of the popular guy who could have any girl wanting the one who eschews popularity less out of egotism and more because she's genuinely scared.

An interesting parallel that comes up along these lines is Ma-ri's love of music. From Jae-min's perspective, it's clear that this is the reason why she's shy, because like the rest of the drama, Ma-ri's musical talents feel vaguely strange and otherworldly. The result is a rather intriguing blend of atmosphere that actually ends up feeling way more important than any of the actual vampire stuff. That backstory is important and well-established, but clearly takes second priority here compared to the depth of Ma-ri's personality.

Even Ma-ri's family falls into this. Goofy dad Seung-hoon (played by Ahn Kil-kang) and elegant mom Seon-hwa (played by Yoon Ye-hee) are less vampires as they are people who appreciate humanity even as they know they must hide from it. But then, are vampires people..? That's the main dramatic thrust of "Orange Marmalade" and so far the drama's off to an intriguing start in that regard. My only complaint is that the second episode drags a bit, getting a tad too enmeshed in its own atmosphere and forgetting to actually move the plot forward all that much. Even so, the good definitely outweighs the bad so far.

I think its mainly a review for episode 1. He didnt say much about ep 2 and no Han Shi Hoo at all

the writer didn't read the webtoon so he has no idea how fast the story is moving in the drama

I found out for the first time that someone who can stop my time. Do you know that?

The world that surrounds me disappears for a moment.

In the paused time the only sensation… the feeling of only breathing. That… was you.

“It would be scary and uneasy.

We would have to alert the authorities a vampire stays next door, and everytime the vampire would run away.

This is coexistence from the viewpoint of a human, right?

Do you know the meaning of coexistence?

To humans, we vampires are just an existence no better than the polar bears.â€

I hope that 2nd season in Joseon-era wont take too long. And I wonder whats their purpose adding that to the drama

that's why Jonghyun ordered a tailor-made male hanbok

i guess they're going back to the time when the pact between human and vampire was made. i guess their fate linked since then

lol, Im still confused.

Someone in AOA thread said the plan for those 3 seasons could be changed, depends on the rating, etc.

Bcus if they add a story of Joseon era, I think the current actors wont be involved at all. Mari and Han Shi Hoo's age supposed to be really 18, I dont think they have live since Joseon era, which means theyre already 200-400 years old.

But theres no information about the actors for that Joseon era, so maybe they already changed the plan? Or it could be just an unconfirmed rumor, or maybe it will take only 1-2 episodes so they dont think its necessary to introduce the actors earlier. I dont know, lol

they could get the same actors portraying different characters in different setting

'Orange Marmalade' Yeo Jin-goo is drawn to Seolhyun for no reason

photo593818.jpg

It must be the beginning of the romance when Yeo Jin-goo was drawn to Seolhyun for no reason.

On the first episode of KBS 2TV's 'Orange Marmalade', Jeong Jaemin (Yeo Jin-goo) felt he was drawn to the new student, Baek Ma-ri (Seolhyun), who transferred from another school, and he could not stop staring at her for no reason.

The two had encountered once already on their way to school.

Baek Ma-ri was assigned to Jeong Jaemin's class. She decided to keep it in low key in order to stay unnoticed so she could graduate without having her vampire identity to be revealed, However, Jeong Jaemin, who felt the inexplicable feeling towards Baek Ma-ri, started following her.

As the utmost popular boy, eomchina, Jeong Jaemin at the school started showing interest to Baek Ma-ri, whom no one paid attention to, it could be possibly the beginning of the romance.

Hmm, I just want to say, as I've read the webtoon until the end, at first I was also not sure if the drama could deliver as good as the webtoon. But now, I can even say the drama is even better than the webtoon.

That scene when Jaemin couldnt stop staring at Mari, is my favorite scene from episode 1. That was also the first time I felt like "Ok. This is an amazing drama for sure!" Why? Hmm, its kinda hard to describe it. Lets just say, even tho Jaemin was only staring at Mari, but somehow I could exactly feel their emotions, both of them. The piano BGM also helping so much to transfer their emotions to viewers.

At first, the tempo of the piano BGM is quite fast, and you get the feel of 'fluffy teenage blossoming romance' just like that reviewer said. But then, when Jaemin couldnt stop staring at Mari, the piano BGM slowed down and slowly transferred the emotions of the 2 characters to me. Mari, who doesnt have a choice but avoiding everyone during break time, because its harder to hide her identity if she got a close friend. And Jaemin, for sure, the only thing on his mind was definitely "Why that girl chose to be alone? In a place where no one could find her?" They didnt do anything but its such a beautiful scene for me, lol.

Haha, seems like I become more melancholy because of this drama :derp:

I felt the staring part was too long. i was like 'next scene please, why did you include shot of a wood in the middle of staring' :derp:

haha. Anyway its mainly the piano BGM which gives the feel. Props to the production team for adding a very fitting BGM for each scenes. I felt like this drama is truly a real life manhwa/anime. Best manhwa/manga adaptation that I've seen so far

i really like the BGM so far :ohbi:
