SBS is on Japanese Dorama remake spree

Recommended Posts

Making her way back to TV land in two years, Choi Ji Woo has been cast as the lead in SBS’ upcoming drama The Strange Housekeeper

On July 31, SBS announced that Choi Ji Woo will be playing the character, Park Bok Nyuh in The Strange Housekeeper, which awaits a September premiere.

The drama is based off of Japan’s Kaseifu no Mita, which aired through NTV in 2011. The dorama gained huge success, receiving over 40 percent in ratings.

The Strange Housekeeper is about an unsociable housekeeper who is perfect in what she does around the house but lacks in smiles due to her mysterious past.

“With the original story having a touching and humanistic story, the female character’s unique charm, and faith in the hit-making director Kim Hyung Sik, I chose this project without a second thought,†said Choi Ji Woo. “I will do my best to show an acting transformation that actress Choi Ji Woo has never shown before.â€

The drama will begin on September 23.

LOL Kaseifu is the one that got over 40% rating in Japan right?

Well if you're going to remake do the super popular one I guess  :derp:

I'm not sure if it will be as good as original tho since kdramas have to add some makjang stuffs to appeal to the ahjummas that watch dramas

omg, please no makjang T^T

The plot seems interesting though (I haven't seen the Japanese dorama), so I'll probably check it out when the time comes

They should remake Galileo, I love that show so much  :ahmagah:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galileo_(TV_series)

I don't know who could pull off the lead role with as much panache though, but I would nominate Lee Bo Young as Utsumu Kaori.

Also Moyashimon because it's incredibly cute/wacky http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moyasimon:_Tales_of_Agriculture

their remakes are always so awful though.

the reason why jdramas are great is because of its length. kdramas always drag a lot because they have too many episodes. They also like adding cliched shit like love triangles and incurable diseases.

I vote that the next Korean Drama should be named: Love triangles and incurable diseases

Boys Over Flowers/Hana Yori Dango was great though, I prefer the korean version over the japanese one tbqh.  I'd also like to see remakes of jpn series that weren't very good / had great anime versions vs live-action such as Nodame Cantabile or Hotaru No Hikari tbqh too.

But all that makjang crap has to go, it really kills dramas for me (Lee Soon Shin etc) >_> A rom-com shouldn't have all those melodramatic tropes like amnesia/terminal illness/birth secret crap imho..

Ummm..No dame Cantabile drama is good tho. Jdramas are the best when it comes to comedy imo.

I didn't like the LA version as much as the anime tbqh :(  But that's just my personal opinion.  And I agree, jdrama is the best when it comes to comedy for sure

are you serious? BOF is laughably bad. Even Koreans admit that it's crappy. HYD >>>>> BOF

They better not touch Nodame Cantabile. That's one of my favs and I don't want them to add their melodramatic angst to it.

Yes I am serious :p  But it's personal taste only, so obviously I may be in the minority.

"Even Koreans admit it's crappy" -> that's quite a generalization, considering it hit over 30% viewers nationally for the last 15 episodes?  It's not like it was geared to win awards, it was meant to be fun and popular with viewers which it was.

I actually liked how silly/outrageous it got at times, I don't think it's a storyline that should take itself seriously as a rom-com.  I didn't like the lead actress that much but I preferred LMH as Goo Jun Pyo.  Re: Nodame,  I guess though it would be impossible to expect some unwelcome makjang elements (idk why kdrama has so much of it) in a remake so maybe it's a bad idea for a Nodame remake  :._.:  In a perfect world I wouldn't mind a good remake though.  The anime (all seasons) is by far my favourite of its type so it's hard to follow it up (loved the voice actors in it too)

BOF was just bad all around lol The ost , acting (esp jandi and kim hyun joong.. good lord they can't act), editing, cgi (the ducks in the pool scene.. lol), etc

lol I didn't mean to sound so judgemental. I think it's fine to like it but BOF is definitely inferior to HYD. I do agree with you about LMH. I liked his portrayal more too. I think it's because he was bigger and had more presence. I really couldn't take matsujun seriously as some kind of group leader lol

yeah I have no idea why Korea loves adding so much makjang elements to their dramas. Even their romcoms have unnecessary angst lol

Sigh.. it is true (re: Jandi and KHJ).. KHJ singlehandedly destroyed Playful Kiss/Itazura Na Kiss for me which I still watched till the end because I like Jung So Min.

I should really rewatch HYD since I haven't seen it since it came out, just to compare.

Your last sentence, is my biggest beef with kdrama >_>  I admit to reading recaps before deciding to watch episodes in a lot of kdrama because I absolutely hate unnecessary makjang
