44 finalists performed in Tokyo Chinzanso hotel on the 12th for the final qualifying competition to be Japan's representative for "2015 Miss Universe" and 20 year old Miyamoto Eliana from Nagasaki Prefecture became the winnner. In the final election speech Miyamoto talked about her mental state "I had worried about whether me, who is half Japanese, is good enough" and was enthusiastic, saying " Even though I think the world competition is even more harsh, I believe in myself and I wish to do my very best".
Miyamoto's mother is Japanese, father is American and she was raised in Nagasaki.

[+18686, -1135] It's not that she's not pretty, it just feels like she's representing another country.

[+14986, -1062] No, no, wait a minute...

[+10125, -661] If you think "Am I, who's half, good enough", why did you enter?

[+7642, -385] No matter how you look, not Japanese style.

[+7015, - 433] A foreigner, the type that Miss Universe contest likes, was chosen.
Certainly, she's a beauty and because she did her best at language studies and has good sense, she has a good impression but it does not feel like she's Japan's representative.

[+6685, - 352] Even though I always think that but recently the beautiful ones are not chosen.

[+5418, -405] I don't really care, but an amazing one was chosen.

[+5573, -685] I don't want to say that to a woman but why did she appear?
It's out of place as Japan's representative.

[+4364, -354] There were a lot of judges with a foreigner complex.

[+1565, -62] "Am I, who's half, good enough?", then why apply?

i get them complaining if they feel she's not confident enough

but if she was raised in japan, and speaks japanese, what makes them think she isn't as capable to represent the country as everyone else?

Because she's not of pure Japanese blood. It's very easy to understand. It's a very homogeneous country so they would want someone that represents the ideal of the country. Japan isn't like the US where there many different races as a norm. They're not saying she's not pretty, just that she isn't Japanese enough. Being born and raised there makes you Japanese in nationality, but not in ethnicity.

I get what the fifth comment is saying. She looks like the prototypical Miss Universe contestant from Venezuela that always wins.

A little bit of pandering to the judges tastes can't hurt though.

countries like Korea and Japan prefers pureblooded native people than mixed

i get this but it's just so...... disrespectful. like give her her moment, she earned it. why dont they just go lobby for a full japanese girl in the next year

Meh, I don't really think of it as such. She doesn't look like your regular Japanese girl. It's just a fact.

but she is Japanese, she was raised there ... Japan is her country, her homeland.

all those who commented against her I bet will be thrilled if Japan wins Miss World and would say "she is Japanese".

Japan won medals with athletes born and raised in Japan who have a non-Japanese parent, they represented Japan and it wasn't a problem , they all were proud when they won and also the athletes proud to represent their country.

Japan's rep doesnt have to, every single year, be a perfect representation of japanese women. Which is a ridiculous thought in itself because like the average japanese woman is 1m70+? No they're not. And the halfie culture exists in Japan and she's stunning so I don't see a problem here, if, for one year, she's a halfie

I myself would like more diversity in my country's misses but it doesnt happen.

I do kinda think it'd be interesting to see different beauty types than the same globalised tan, tall, curvy, big lipped beauty (more representative of the Americas). Nothing wrong with that, but it really doesn't represent Japan at all. For Ariana that mentality sucks, but...I mean....It's a beauty competition. You really think people won't talk about your looks and how pretty they think you are/aren't?

Welcome to the world of modelling and aesthetics is all I gotta say lol.

I doubt they'd have a problem with her being half Japanese if she had the whole porcelain princess look going on tbh. That's what they see as beautiful, not necessarily Arianas look.

Honestly, I can see the Japanese people's point of view. While I do think it's wonderful to have diversity, you people need to remember that other countries are mostly HOMOGENOUS. You need to remember that not every country has huge groups of minorities. Japan is a homogenous country. There are mainly JAPANESE people (I'm talking about actual ethnicity here and not nationality and they are COMPLETELY different things). If you look at Eliana, would you immediately think she is japanese and a representative of Japan? No. While I do applaud Japan in choosing someone who is Japanese (by blood and nationality), you guys need to realize why some people may have a problem with this.

Western civilizations need to stop forcing this multicultural representation (or something like this) down other country's throats (and I am from Canada, one of the most multicultural countries in the world). I still remember that one thread about LGBT acceptance in Italy and certain users were complaining that, "OMG THERE ARE ONLY WHITE PEOPLE! WHERE ARE THE OTHER PoC PEOPLE?" When you guys need to realize that Italy is mostly made up of people that look like the ones in the video (CAUCASIAN! GASP), and that the video is really good for their society (cuz I think someone said homophobia is rampant there or something?).

Anyways, best of luck Eliana~

Yea that's why I don't blame the commenters for saying what they say. Fact is, she doesn't look Japanese, and Japan is pretty much over 90% full blooded Japanese. It makes sense to have a full blooded Japanese person represent Japan.

She's half Black right? She is beautiful, but she shouldn't represent Japan. She is not what most Japanese look like. Though, it does suck that someone who is half something else probably wouldn't have as much comments like this.

PS She looks like Alicia Keys.
