Johnny Depp considers retiring from acting sooner or later

He galloped onto screens in The Lone Ranger, but could Johnny Depp's acting career be riding off into the sunset for good?

The 50-year-old actor set fans abuzz when he hinted in an interview Monday that the time may be nigh to eventually retire from acting.

While chatting with the BBC to promote the U.K. release of The Lone Ranger, Depp hinted that there are "quieter" things he would eventually like to do other than making movies.

"I wouldn't say that I'm dropping out any second," Depp clarified, "but I would say it's probably not too far away."

The actor also noted a strange irony when it comes to his chosen profession.

"At a certain point, you start thinking, and when you add up the amount of dialogue that you say per year, for example, and you realize that you've said written words more than you've actually had a chance to say your own words, you start thinking of that as a kind of insane option for a human being," he explained.

"So, are there quieter things that I wouldn't mind doing, you know? Yeah, I wouldn't mind that," he offered.

It's not the first time Depp has publicly mulled retirement.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Depp said that thoughts of retirement pop up "every day" and that he'd eventually like to "just take it down to the bare minimum and concentrate on, I guess, living life. Really living life."

Don't expect Depp to pull the plug on his daytime job anytime soon, though. The actor has a full slate lined up, including the splashy big-screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Into the Woods, in which he'll play the big bad Wolf.

He's also reportedly set to revisit two of his more iconic characters: Depp is purportedly in talks to dust off his madcap Mad Hatter for a sequel to Alice in Wonderland, and he's supposedly getting ready to once again sail the high seas in the fifth go-round of the massively successful Pirates of the Caribbean saga, whose previous four films have collectively grossed a whopping $3.7 billion worldwide.

He is such a perfect human being omg. I'm going to miss seeing his beautiful face in movies, but he's right. It's probably that time for him to stop memorizing scripts and just enjoy the rest of his life.

Perfect actor, not a perfect human being I would say. Can't see anything perfect in someone who left his children and wife for a younger chick just like that, but who am I to judge anyway.

I KNOW!   I'm going to miss his movies so much, but he's been acting since he was a teenager. He's really a fine man when you look at him. One of the few child/teen celebs that grew up in the spotlight, yet still lives a meaningful and thoughtful life. I have loads of respect for him (and he has a face sculpted by the gods tbh).

Ugh I wish I was his age so I could seduce him

^ I don't know much about his personal life to judge him off what the media glorifies. He is not obligated to stay with his wife, just because she is his wife. If there is no longer love between them, why not just separate?

I can't think of a single movie he's acted in that was terribad. Sigh, even if he does retire, hopefully he doesn't stay out of the spotlight too much.

is he consider retirement because lone ranger not doing so well?

my thoughts...

he's such a big budget name... it must be a confidence blow...and slightly embarrassing for him... when one of his films flops...or doesn't live up to commercial and critical expectation. He's coming off the failure of Dark Shadows too... and the ensuing "Has America Fallen Out Of Love" headlines.

In interviews regarding Lone Ranger's poor performance...he's defensive and makes a lot of excuses...so i think it's gotten to him.

I'm sure if his next films are a hit... he'll change his tune...

yes, he's been acting for a long time, and if he were to retire, it would be justified... but he's still youngish considering....and still a big name... taking an indefinite hiatus would seem the more practical choice... than absolute retirement...

Right omg I still can't believe him and Leo still have no Oscar.

Johnny is an amazing character that can easily take a character and make it his own.

He and Leo has played some of the memorable roles in history  It piss me off they don't have Oscars.
