Which music genres would you like to see kpop venturing into?

Or, alternatively, "what kind of sound would give new blood to an industry filled with electropop and hip hop up to the nostrils"?

Must be a repeated topic. But my thread is cooler because it is powered by rumba dance.

Would like to see a bit more exploration and use of various electronic based genres that aren't associated and outside of Dub-step. Dub-step should be replaced with Moombahton, Baile Funk, or Bounce because I can see quite a few groups being able to handle these respective sounds without it coming across too forced or out of place. They aren't the easiest genres to incorporate but there is a basis in pop that allows it to cross over nicely with Moombahton, Baile Funk, and Bounce. Wouldn't mind seeing Deep/Witch House being used because they're a bit tricky but it'll be interesting to see a group pull it off. It'll be the easiest for K-pop to turn to Reggae and Dancehall but in a much more fusion based style. Shouldn't come across like any of the past attempts to handle Dancehall or Reggae but something much more genuine and based in fusion.

Baile Funk, eh? That's something I don't know whether I'd like to listen to or not. I mean, it has good beats, but tends not to be very melodic, which is something I appreciate a lot in kpop.

I, for one, would like to see more jazz. But not simply throwing some saxophones and trumpets there, no. I would much want to see kpop incorporate the formal liberties jazz tends to take. In particular, I'd like to see much more Electro Swing. Dal Shabet's Have, Don't Have had some, but I want more of it, and bolder, too. Stuff Caravan Palace would do.

I also am all for f(x)'s new "cult" stuff. They went kinda experimental, didn't they? I'd much like to see reflections of Grimes and Crystal Castles, with more vocoding and stuff. Like Shadow - even though I hear it isn't an original song. Is that correct?

Just came in here with the same idea! More ethereal, gothic pop. I'd like to here some 'darker' songs - those would definitely help breaking out from the seemingly overbearing girl group dichotomy of "cute or sexy".

I'd also like to see some jazzy chillwave elements brought in, just because I feel like the right group could definitely handle something along the lines of an upbeat Toro Y Moi track. First group that comes to mind is Shinee, actually.

f(x) recently took quite a bit of risk especially in regards to Shadow, which came across a bit dreamy and more aural then their past material. Dream Pop could turn out to be a style that groups would be able to execute and develop while still appealing to the Korean public. Wouldn't mind seeing groups attempt to mimic Grimes or Cyrstal Castles but it isn't going to happen especially in the case of Crystal Castles. Their sound and vocals are much too harsh and aggressive but it'll be quite a statement made if a group tries to handle their brand of witch house or electronic punk that still touches on 8-bit. K-pop has become quite obsessed or fond of Dub-step and would think something like Baile Funk or Moombahton would have a bit of crossover appeal for more aggressive groups.

Edit: Crystal Castles may just work but only it's stripped of its more aggressive elements and becomes something a bit more atmospheric and organic. Recently saw Untrust Us covered by a children's choirs (?) and they did an excellent job and can see a K-pop group handling the record in a similar manner.

I'd certainly take either over dubstep. Dubstep is to be appreciated, sure, but I don't see much of a point if the ones singing the song aren't the ones actually dropping the bass.

I know, right? I saw that video too. I can see a talented group handling choirs and a capella experiments. Perhaps out of touch with the image kpop passes, but a healthy choice musically speaking.

They've been using it much too often and aren't necessarily using it to its full advantage or how it's suppose to be delivered. Moombahton could be a solid replacement because it's a bit more lively and energetic without it being as aggressive. Remember Fiestar attempting to tackle Moombahton and they actually did an excellent job with the sound and overall styling of the genre. There are so many genres that could work and be developed in a manner that suits K-pop and could make everything much more refreshing and interesting to listen to. Brooke makes an excellent point especially with a group handling Chillwave or something along the lines of Toro Y Moi.
