Can I just say how much Kris has improved his performance from the MV to this performance? He really did. I could see how he executed his dance a little more powerfully. He's no KaiLaiHun or any other strong dancer, but he is stepping up. I hope this rate of progression will keep going on. I just love his look in that white suit. And not to forget, he had the loudest cheer too. I'm so happy for him!!!! He's truly handsome and standing out in there.

You mean that thread about Japanese fan cafes? All 5 fanmeetings at Saitama Arena were sold out (100,000 audience), so I don't think 1,500-people fancafe can say much about their popularity.

 

At the end of 2013, from the statistics that I collect from baidu, it seems Kris is still the 2nd most popular EXO member in China. Kris's army of Chinese fans is no joke! He won some polls this year in China, so I don't think his popularity in China declines at all.

 

In Korea, all Chinese members are not the most popular. Luhan is somewhat more popular than the other three, but he's still not as popular as Xiumin, Baekhyun and Kyungsoo.

 

In South East Asia, Kris is really popular! He's definitely top 5 in Vietnam (together with HunHanChanBaek). He got some news articles about him on a news site that is quite popular among teenagers. As far as I know, he is the only EXO member that got news articles exclusively about himself (not the whole group) on that site so far (Kyungsoo got one but it's due to the scandal with his saesangs).

 

I had discussion with another Kris fan about this issue, and she told me this: "I'm not worried about how many fans our bias have. Even if he has only 10 fans, as long as all those 10 love him and support him no matter what, I am satisfied." I totally agree with her. My love for Kris doesn't increase if he is more popular, and it doesn't decrease either if he is less popular.

 

I hope you won't be worried anymore and just continue to love our Galaxy boy ^^

 

It's so weird how I keep getting different opinions on the popularity in China. Awhile ago, I was confident that Kris was 2nd in popularity in China. However, someone in Tao's thread said that Tao is actually the 2nd most popular. It's like his popularity keeps rising so now Kris and Tao are close. But I have no idea. I think the only position I'm certain is Luhan being #1. 

 

It was weird seeing Kris rank so low in Japan because he has that manga look and also is funny and dorky. I hope he will grow on the audience. 

 

His popularity is no joke in South East Asia like you said. Thailand and Vietnam love him. I think Thailand and Vietnam in general have quite similar taste. They often like that typical handsome, light skin, big eyes, V shape face look. The very standard beauty look. I have somewhat similar taste since I'm Viet. I remember in Exoplanetvn, Kris is 2nd to Luhan. 

 

Kris is also quite popular internationally because he can speak many languages. 

 

Anyway, yeah popular or not, he'll still be my bias.

I made this table in November 2013 from their baidu. Baidu is not everything, but it can give a rough estimation about their popularity. I'm too lazy to make a new one now.

 

 

Oh so which one should we count though? Registered member seems most accurate.

I'm not sure either.

I just realized that the ranking of first three categories has almost the same trend, only the fourth one seems out of the pattern.

People can use others's ID to register to inflate their bias's popularity. I think the number of people visiting those topics every month (the first column) is more reliable. It's much harder to manipulate that number. 

 

We need to find some Chinese fans to explain to us how baidu works. 

 

It's quite unlikely that Baekhyun and Chanyeol actually ranked higher than Tao. I do think that the register number is more reliable because only Chinese people can actually register for it while international fans often come to Baidu to look up pictures. So the number of views can come from international fans as well and not just Chinese fans. Also, there are some fans more active than others. But of course, it's just my own opinion. Yeah, we don't have many inside source here.

Baekyeol are popular in China because the popularity of their OTP helps them, just like how Hunhan helps Sehun rank so high. (besides the fact that Chinese people seem to love the type of Sehun's look). There are a lot of Baekyeol Chinese fanfics, they seem to be the 2nd most popular OTP.

 

People need Chinese IDs to register, but one person can register many accounts with many IDs (from their relatives).

Not many International fans bother to visit baidu because it's mostly in Chinese. We don't even know how it works.

I don't think the fourth column is correct because it's very unlikely that a huge number of Tao fans are so unactive on baidu (which is reflected by the number of topics and posts). 

 

Anyway this is just baidu. We need more factors (number of votes they got in polls, media coverage, fansites,...) to approximately determine who is more popular than who. OMG now I sound so obsessed with popularity 

 

That's true. I know Baekyeol and HunHan are very popular. Krisyeol is actually popular too as you can always hear fans chanting Chanyeol's name when Kris has to pick a partner. 

 

Yeah, I get what you mean. I also think we need more people to confirm this. Anyway, nah you don't sound obsessed. It's just we all need to go through some logical reasoning to get an answer.

Yeah! As long as my bias happy, but i still worried about this issues maybe due to rumours about he want to leave exo early 2013.

 

That rumour really affect exotic. We've been waiting exo for so long for their 1st comeback. And news release that their comeback got delay again.

 

I've seen so much hate on kris due to this issue. Other than his usual hater, sadly few of them come from exotic. Many rude comments come out such as useless, cant stand with idol world, full of himself.. Its really hurt me.

 

Even worse when Exo has to promote as otp12. Exo-m has to promote mainly in korea. Chinaline got lack of exposure/screentime last year (but i'm happy chen and xiumen got few spotlight). Kris even seem disoriented at few interview and his lazy dance are not help either.

 

Maybe due to the above, lots of fan have negative perspective view on him. And i've seen many kris bias has jump to the others. Even some of blog and tumblr dedicated for him were no longer active.

 

Yeah, perspective of fan to him that bothers me so much. Cause i due realize how idol world works. Idol that popular among fanbase or public that being prefer to get endorsement and solo project( ost, tv/ drama/film appearance, magazine and runaway) This all for his own good for his long term carrier.

 

Ive seen chanyeol, kai and luhan to get that spot while i waiting for kris (either sm are generous enough to promote him well or his huge fan are backing him up to get this promotion). For me: popular among fan -> get solo project for sm to milk out money and not locked in the dungeon-> better exposure -> popular among public -> more project and endorsement - our bias happy, sm happy, fan happy.

 

Thank god that he receives so much loves after showtime. And sorry for ranting here. This is like the only place i feel safe to talk about kris in OH without haters being delulu.

Well, the hate for Kris in this forum is no joke. I heard it was worse before. I'm glad Kris stans are starting to gather in one spot now. Anyway, I used to be affected too much back then (still sort of do) by it but after Jebin and I had so much discussions about it, he taught me to let it go. I basically had to stop focusing too much on the negativity of this forum. I guess we can't live his life for him and Kris definitely has had enough love as an idol. 

 

Lol sometimes, I don't know why Kris wasn't put as the face for Exo-m since he has such a presence. Luhan has a public friendly face while Kris has more presence, in my opinion.

 

LOL I feel like Kris's showtime image definitely gave him more love but also less respect from the public. I honestly get annoyed when people are starting to not take him seriously at all now.

By the point, all we can do is pre order the album and try listening to Overdose on Youtube 10 times a day (that's the limit I think). I mean, that's the only way to get them back on track.

yasss actually earlier this year, Kris was invited to film a vcr promo for the Chinese New Year with popular actress Cecilia Liu. SM didn't allow it. They asked the Chinese officials for money if Kris was going to do it. SM wants to get paid. The PD in charge of it said that there's no pay for it because it's for the Chinese New Year holiday celebration. They don't pay anybody for it. Usually top stars do it for free so they can get their name and face out there to the public. SM didn't accept the project for Kris. Kris missed a big opportunity to get his face out there. Millions of Chinese people were watching it. It would of been a great chance for Kris to expose himself to the general public in China.

Cecilia is really popular in China. Shes one of the current top actresses. Sad for Kris. This only gives me another reason to hate Sm for his love for money.

Hopefully things will start to change soon now that they are so popular. All of them have so much potential... I'm so curious to see Kris and Tao acting or get more modelling gigs, Lay could be part of an acoustic/singer-songwriter type of sub-unit with someone else or do variety in China and Luhan would be great in a musical or could have a solo track for a movie.

 

Judging by the few solo activities they gave to the korean members so far (except Kyungsoo since we didn't see enough of his acting to judge it properly yet), SM is doing a good job on picking jobs that match their strenghts so I hope the same applies to the chinese members too.

I would love to see Kris going on a fashion show like how Junsis are doing right now. Kris and Tao and Sehun. That would be amazing. I actually would love to see a sub unit with Lay, Luhan and maybe another member. Sure they arent the strongest vocalists but they're well rounded enough to carry their own stage.

Let's wait for confirmation from SM ^^ If it's true, our theory about SM trying to balance the popularity between members is totally wrong.

 

It's clear that Chinese market can bring much more money than Korean market (on condition that the popularity is the same in both countries). I think SM see that and really want to penetrate the Chinese market, but they just don't have enough experience and power to do it. It's really hard for a dance group to get public recognition in China. Chinese promotion was totally ignored in 2013, and now EXO's popularity in Korea far exceeds theirs in China. I hope SM won't give up.

When I checked the poll, Kris was #2, Luhan was #4, Tao and Lay were #10 and #11.

 

Yeah, heard the rumor hasn't been confirmed by SM. Oh well, Luhan is most likely the one getting the most offers for individual activities since he's the visual/face of Exo-M. Also, I think SM has enough confidence in him. But let's wait until the confirmation.
