A college student has been charged with sexually assaulting 19-year-old woman after he allegedly attempted to recreate Fifty Shades of Grey.

Mohammad Hossain, 19, is accused of tying up his victim, a fellow student, whipping and punching her before raping her in his dormitory at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

The engineering student has admitted to police that he assaulted the woman, but explained to them that it was because they were 're-enacting scenes from Fifty Shades of Grey'.

Charged: Mohammad Hossain, 19, is accused of tying up a fellow student, also 19, whipping and punching her before raping her in his dormitory at the University of Illinois at Chicago

Mr Hossain, a college freshman and student ambassador to the alumni association, and the alleged victim went to his room on Saturday afternoon.

Hossain is said to have asked her to remove her clothing, which she consented to but kept her bra and underwear on, before tying her hands and legs with belts, the Chicago Tribune reports.

He used a necktie to cover her mouth and pulled a knit cap over her eyes, before removing her underwear, Assistant State's Attorney Sarah Karr told the Cook County court.

Mr Hossain then struck her several times with a belt before she told him to stop as he was hurting her, the court heard.

The woman 'began shaking her head and crying', but Mr Hossain is said to have continued to hit her with the belt and also punched her several times.

Assault: The victim, also a University of Illinois at Chicago student, said Mr Hossain continued to whip and punch her with his fists after she began crying and telling him to stop, before proceeding to rape her

Despite the victim crying and continuing to beg him to stop, Mr Hossein held her arms behind her back and sexually assaulted her, an arrest warrant claims.

The woman left Mr Hossain's dorm after the alleged assault and reported the incident to the police.

Mr Hossain was arrested by campus police, and after admitting to 'doing something wrong' and assaulting the woman, he told officers they had been 're-enacting scenes from Fifty Shades of Grey', Ms Karr said according to the newspaper.

Mr Hossain remains in custody on a $500,000 bail. His lawyer claims he thought the sex was consensual.

The hit film Fifty Shades of Grey is an adaptation of the adaptation of the best-selling novel by British author E.L. James.

The film, which stars James Dornan as BDSM-loving billionaire Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as innocent college student Anastasia 'Ana' Steele, spent a second weekend at the top of the U.S. and Canadian box office charts.

Fifty Shades, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, has already racked up $410 million in global sales in less than two weeks, according to Universal Pictures.

?

... And not post his face?

The other article did suggest the two were FWBs and had a history of being intimate.

Seems like they both decided to try the 50SoG thing. She didn't like it and told him to stop. He got too caught up and didn't resist his urges to stop. If he legit didn't realise, then I wish they had taken better precautions. And pinning it on reenactment is dumb. You can try something out, but not use it as an excuse for your actions.

Yeah, he made a mistake, a grave one. But I feel slightly bad for the guy, his mugshot made a farce out of etc.

I'm a bit conflicted on how to feel about this wholes issue tbh. Ignore me

Even if they decided to try it out, which I don't know based on what you've come to that conclusion, that's no excuse. If she told him to stop, which she did on multiple occasions according to the article, and he didn't, that's a crime. And why cover his face? the guy was charged with sexual assault, why shouldn't his photo be posted? he's not a minor.

This is exactly why this book/movie is bad because men can now use this as an excuse to inflict violence upon women and the worst part is that is was written by a woman who won't even admit she did anything wrong.. this is a disgrace to human kind.

Read the other article on OH that I linked originally. They had a prior history of intimacy. Probably wanted to try this out tbh.

Yeah he was wrong, which constitutes as rape, yes. But I feel like there could be mitigating factors IF they decided to try it out and it just didn't work out (he didn't consciously decide to rape her and use reenactment as an excuse).

The worldwide publicity that this case is probably going to get (wrt other rape cases) is probably tenfold. At least in my society, honour/face is seriously important. This is just humiliation beyond. Like, circulation of his mugshot will go far beyond just for the purposes of safety.

What I'm saying is, if the purpose of the law is for rehabilitation, rather than punishment (pretty sure it's meant for the former at least in the USA), then publishing his mugshot even prior to whether he has been convicted or not is damning to him. I mean, there isn't a "take-back" if they decide he isnt guilty, or that she lied (I'm not saying she did), or that he is guilty but has his charges lessened.

I hope I'm making sense.

So what if they were intimate before? That doesn't mean in any way they decided to try it together. And even if they did and she changed her mind halfway, sorry, but that makes zero difference.

He deserved to be humiliated. He sexually assaulted a woman. The humiliation he will face is nothing compared to what she will and has lived through.

Sorry, you're not making any sense. You sound like you're defending a rapist.

Because she didn't do anything wrong. She wrote a book. The fact that some men use it has an excuse to sexually assault women has nothing to do with her. Men don't need an excuse to sexually assault women, and if they didn't have the book they'd find another excuse. It's pretty much like saying "well, the women shouldn't have worn that" when a man says he sexually assaulted a woman because "she dressed like she wanted it".

Edit - there was that guy who said he was inspired to murder john Lenon because of Catcher in the Rye. Should the author apologies too and admit he did something wrong by writing a book which made someone kill someone?
