But groups such as 2NE1, 4Minute, Secret, T-ARA had debuted on the same year releasing several hit songs when Rainbow wasn’t able to release a big hit song to stand out. The music industry described them as a group who should’ve gained popularity years ago. A few netizens showed their pity by saying “Rainbow is lacking nothing except for their popularityâ€. Rainbow had released their new album called’Innocent’ on the 23rd after their latest album release which was in June 2013. Rainbow had a long hiatus compared to the idols these days who release several albums a year. None of the members have left the group during the past 6 years, this shows how strong their teamwork is and how loyal they are to each other. We have recently interviewed Rainbow at Jongro-gu, Susong-dong. It seems like Rainbow has suffered a lot since the junior girl groups are rising these days. "It’s true that the conclusion to our album release through consultations with the agency were missed. But if we kept going for 6 years without a rest, we would’ve aged and our bodies would’ve matured but our hearts would’ve still stayed immature. We had time to keep our insides very firm. We didn’t spend a messy hiatus, we got to think about our lives a lot and become a stronger adult. Haha." (Members) The members who spoke so bravely also said “We were thankful that we got to release another album†and “The fans who looked at us with pity said ‘I want to take care of you’†and laughed. Many groups have gone through member changes and ups and downs but Rainbow has never gone through a member change. No Eul said “If you believe in each other, you’ll have a bigger heart to want to work together†and “If you’re not in good terms, you may go through member changes but we like each other so we never thought about withdrawing from the team†Jaekyung and Yoonhye emphasized on this by replying “If the agency wanted to add members to our team, we would’ve revoltedâ€. A few members have done individual activities during the hiatus and raised their popularity. Jaekyung was the MC of a beauty program and gained attention for being named the ‘Idol Artist’ due to her drawing skills. Yoonhye appeared in a drama. Jisook was a reported for ‘Entertainment Relay’ along with becoming famous for being a blogger writing about IT products etc. Thanks to this, she became the model for LC PCs and writes a column for the social LG site. Hyunyoung appeared in the sitcom ‘Boarding House No.24’ and composed a song for Kye Bum Joo. Seunga appeared in the musical ‘Grease’. Their individual activities were done also for their comeback. As much as they have stood on the starting line together, the minds of the members have changed a lot. Yoonhye said “If the criteria for ‘girl groups who have succeeded’ is to win 1st place, we have changed our goal†and “We wish to be complimented for maturing by each album, and we wish for the number of fans who look at us to increaseâ€. "The fans have gone to the army whilst we had our hiatus so after the discharge, they can enjoy social life with us. Hahaha." (Jaekyung) Rainbow’s new album feels like the rough sketch made to construct a stand-alone style for the group. Normally, girl groups go for a clear concept such as ‘sexy’, ‘innocent’ and start but Rainbow wasn’t able to appeal to this kind of side. Jaekyung said, “we wanted to look stylish for our debut song Gossip Girl, we tried to look like strong girls for the follow up song Not Your Girl†and “Before making an imprint of the team’s image, we tried different concepts. We are confident about our current song and style.†The title song ‘Black Swan’ starts off with a dreamlike introduction but the chorus melody is very catchy. They accentuated their feminine side with a see though outfit and the dance using their pelvis was named their ‘Point Dance’. The lyrics to the song seems to relate well with the group. "The song is about worrying about ‘What is your inner self’. We wish for this song to be a song that consoles the people who are hurt. The highlight of the lyrics are ‘Please embrace me, please accept me’. We wish for the public to embrace us and accept us too. Haha." The song ‘The Bad Man Cries’ is about a woman who is hurt because of a bad man. Hyunyoung had recorded herself swearing for the song but after considering deliberation, the part had been removed. The members emphasized on their friendship by saying they were thankful for all seven of them to be out together. "The members are now aged between 25-28. We got to draw out our sadness together and we gathered our opinions with the majority rule. We try to find the right member to be consoled from depending on the personality of the worry. The dormitory contract ended in February so we live individually but if we were asked to live again, we would agree to it."
