[2015.02.23] Rainbow Interview â‘  'Deadbow has revived'

The girl group Rainbow has released their third mini album titled ‘Innocent’ after their 1 year 7 month hiatus. Fans of Rainbow expressed their pity for the lack of promotions and nicknamed them ‘Dead-bow’ as well. Due to the long hiatus, there were rumors about disbandments but the members thought it was a good time for them to build up on what they lacked. We have had an interview with Rainbow whom stated their ambition as “We wish to release 3 albums in 2015â€.

- Please tell us how you feel about your comeback. 

(Kim Jisook) “We are 7 years into our debut. We’re hearing comments that we are ‘middle-grade singers’ but if we had our comeback with a similar concept to the previous one, there would be no freshness and we wouldn’t survive within the rookies. This is why we have come up with an unique concept. The anticipate is big.†

(Kim Jaekyung) “I had a lot in my mind during the hiatus. When I had a deep thought about it, you can’t think of a special image when you think of ‘Rainbow’. I think earning an image is one of the homework we have to complete.â€

- Is there a special image you wish to earn?

(Cho Hyunyoung) “I want to give away the innocent and shining image to the rookies. Even if it’s not like the ‘strong unnies’ concept 4minute has, I wish for each member to have a good stability for their image.â€

- There was a saying called ‘Dead-bow’ due to your comeback which was being delayed.

(Kim Jaekyung) “This was something we couldn’t choose. But all members have worked so hard in order to have a comeback as a whole.†

- You didn’t have many activities but Rainbow is a group that was not easily forgotton.

(Cho Hyunyoung) “I’m so thankful. It’s so hard to be unforgotten when the hiatus is so long.†

(Kim Jisook) “The members tried so hard in order to make the ‘hiatus’ not seem like a ‘hiatus’. We tried to give a ‘We’re by your side’ feeling to the fans by communicating to them a lot via SNS’.†

(Kim Jaekyung) “Rainbow was born in the right time. Rainbow’s debut was close by the time communicating via SNS and smartphone was possible. Not only did we come out on broadcasts and news, but we also got to share updates on Twitter, converse on Facebook to not let go of our fans. It felt like we were doing an ‘Actual reality program’ in our daily lives.â€

- What have you achieved during your hiatus

(Kim Jaekyung) “The members were either promoting in Rainbow Blaxx or appearing in dramas and entertainment shows. I also got to write for beauty columns but it was great to communicate through a different pathway which was different to Rainbow. Rainbow originally had a lot of male fans but it was a great opportunity for us to be heart-to-heart with female fans as well.â€

(Kim Jisook) “Since I was using my blog a lot, lots of fans from different age groups got to know about me and gave their feedback. Promoting bravely on ‘Morning Garden’ and ‘Entertainment Relay’ made me proud to be part of Rainbow and I also stared to miss the ‘whole group Rainbow’ and the members.â€

(Cho Hyunyoung) “It was pleasant to promote as Rainbow Blaxx but I missed being together as a whole group. Whenever we go to festivals, I thought “How nice would it be if it was a music broadcastâ€. Once, the members and I watched a music broadcast together and said ‘When will we be there’.â€

- What came to mind when you saw other artists on music broadcast?

(No Eul) “In all honesty, we do think “I want to take overâ€. Rainbow didn’t do a lot of activities compared to the debut date so we miss standing on stage at any time.â€

(Cho Hyunyoung) “I also had this thought. I get stuffy by the thought ‘Doesn’t Rainbow get given less opportunities compared to how talented and skilled they are?’. That’s how confident we are and how much we missed standing on stage and promoting.†

(Oh Seunga) “Fans believe that singers stand on stage to bring happiness to them but singers tend to gain more energy from the fans after a performance. That’s how charming the stage is and being a singer is great.â€

[2015.02.23] RAINBOW INTERVIEW â‘¡

- Please introduce to use the title song ‘Black Swan’.

(Cho Hyunyoung)â€It’s a unique and addictive song which will make you go ‘Huh?’. It’s hard to classify a genre to it but it’s a dance song with the medium of a medium tempo. The sources used in this song are unique and there is a bit of EDM too.†

(Kim Jaekyung) “The introduction of the song will make people go ‘What is this?’ and in the middle will make them say ‘Is this really Rainbow?’. Before going to sleep you’ll be saying ‘Why do I keep thinking about this song?’ and hum this song continuously.â€

- Is there an episode that happened whilst preparing for this album as a group.

(Kim Jaekyung) “People say that if you see a ghost during recording, you’ll succeed but since our producing schedule was tight, I had no time to look for a ghost.†(laughs)

(Oh Seunga) “Being 7 years into debut made me feel very experienced when filming the music video. I was less tired during the two day music video filming than before.†

(Cho Hyunyoung) “We would tired since the members have aged but everyone was so energetic. We’d say we’re working hard if we worked hard on every step of the choreography but since we’ve become more professional, we know when to put in more effort and when not to.â€

(Oh Seunga) “In the past, the members would get sick or have a nightmare after a music video filming but now everything has changed.†

(Kim Jisook) “I was proud when the ‘Entertainment Relay’ team came to our music video set. It was the first time the team came since debut. It was moving when it was introduced as ‘Rainbow’s MV filming set introduced by Jisook’.†

(Kim Jaekyung) “Jisook was the one to put in Rainbow. I felt great.â€

- Where does Rainbow place within the music industry?

(Kim Jaekyung) “I want to say ‘unrivalled’ in a confident voice. Taking example of our office, wouldn’t Rainbow qualify to be a group which ‘never won 1st but has been receiving love for 7 years’.? Even if it wasn’t fancy from the start we grow up little by little and they will be by our side if we don’t place ‘last’.â€

(Jung Yoonhye) “It’s good to be an employee who always wins 1st place but the office could give out a big task to the employee who has been enduring it for the longest. I think Rainbow fits that role.â€

(Kim Jisook) “We’re like a beef bone soup which has been cooked for a long time. I think it’s like being patient, and waiting for Rainbow to brew.â€

- Is there a fan you remember who has been waiting for you for a long time.

(Kim Jisook) : “There is a fan who always comes to our schedules even if we don’t release album often. I would call this ‘Infinite amount of love’. I wish for this album to succeed so that the fan feels proud to be our fan.†

(Kim Jaekyung) “The fan who created the banner ‘Came to see Rainbow breathe’ for the Idol Athletics was there at the event. It was very touching.†

(Oh Seunga) “There was a fan who commented on an article with ‘We are waiting so don’t worry’. The way to express it is weird but it’s a fan who ‘ages with us’.â€

(Jung Yoonhye) “A few fans are like parens or even a family. They monitor our broadcasts and check up on us saying ‘You looked like you caught a cold, be careful’, ‘I liked this aspect of the broadcast’. It’s heartwarming to become close with the fans as time goes by.â€

- Is there one thing you wish to achieve through this promotion?

(Kim Jaekyung) “There is a goal the members and I have chosen. It is to promote 3 songs this year. The fact that we are able to promote 3 songs shows that the song production was well cone. We wish to promote a lot this time.†

- If you could choose between ‘Music Site all kill’ ‘1st place on music show’ and ‘Concert sold out’, what would it be?

(No Eul) “Do an all kill on music sites, win 1st place and then hold a sold out concert.†(laughs)

- A greeting to the fans

(On Seunga) “I know that not only the fans but the public have also been wondering whether Rainbow is coming back or has gone. We are finally back so we will not lose to your expectations.â€

(No Eul) “It’s not easy to be waiting for something. I want to say ‘Let’s run for it together’ now. I am so thankful.†

(Cho Hyunyoung) “We didn’t release albums because we didn’t want to but I am so sorry. We will show you what we have built up during our hiatus†

Rainbow fans, please support them wholeheartedly. They need you guys.

Don't just go about complaining how the song is boring, DSP effed them over, Noeul and Yoonhye didn't get enough lines... because at the end of the day, it's all 7 girls who will be happy when they win something, or sales are good, or viewcounts are high. They'd know that you've all been there despite everything. That's what gives the group the energy to move forward and succeed.
