I need to get this off my chest, ever had an epiphany or came to a realization?

After watching Whiplash, I started to think about how sometimes you need someone like Terence Fletcher who would seemingly treat you like shit but what they're doing is making you go beyond your limits and do something great or become someone great.

Having such drive and motivation and not ever caving under pressure could be considered a talent too.

Such an inspiration. Now i feel bad about myself complaining about how my carrier/ studies are going and having no idea what i want to actually do in life but doing nothing to change it.

Am I making sense? Probably not. This movie is such an inspiration : DO. NOT. CAVE. UNDER. PRESSURE.

Work hard and practice and do something with your life. Maybe you have a Terence Fletcher in your life to drive you to complete madness ( and dying at 34 yo from a drug overdose but hey, at least you became great at what you do)

And i'm wondering if ' Good job ' are really the two most harmful words in the English language for real.

Probably not :._.:

Wow such deep much great :imstupid:

This is probably not the place for this kinda shit, but yeah you don't need to answer, just watch Whiplash :imstupid:

Example of a teacher being a massive asshole :

OP, do you think it is suitable fare for a 9-year-old?  My niece wanted me to take her to the cinema to watch it, but I've read some reviews which suggest the teacher's methods are akin to abusive behaviour, so I have some reservations. Thanks in advance.

Tbh no i don't think it's suitable for a 9 year old 'faggot', 'cocksuckers'  and other cuntish words be flying. And also i feel like a 9yo wouldn't fully grasp what's happening.

Watch one (or two) of the clips i updated in the OP and see if you think she should watch.

Dude pls, it's still just 30 minutes :unimpressed:

15 then :ohbi:

Having someone as intense as Fletcher in your life to teach you is a blessing in disguise.

What great things in life doesn't come with painful lessons that drives you to the brink of insanity? I mean sure the man would probably drive most people crazy before he makes fighter out of them but if you survive his methods then you're a person to be reckoned with.

Not a lot of people will respond well with Fletcher's ways since it's not what's encouraged in society but hell I need a teacher like him right now.

Yes, I'd curse the man out a lot but I would still be thankful and appreciative at the end of the day.

I don't agree. I had a teacher that was like this for four years. She did more wrong than good and ended up destroying my self-esteem so badly that I had to pay a visit to the psychologist, and I'm still recovering from something she made me go through.

There's a difference between 'asshole' and 'tough'. I do appreciate tough teachers, like my gymnastics coach, but that guy looks more like my other teacher.

Girl, YOU CAN DO IT.  Keep studying, working, making connections with people.  You'll get there if you tell yourself it's possible.

A lot of my dance instructors were like him, harsh and brutal to my self-esteem but taught me to handle criticism well enough that I'm now blunt myself.  I have a lot of teachers nowadays that couldn't give a shit about my potential but just put a grade on my papers.  I think teachers like Terence Fletcher are the best kind because you know they really care.

For example, I hated language arts before my now teacher came into my life.  He didn't just grade our papers and make some comments, he looked at us as individuals and distinguished our writing styles.  The same guy put sleepless nights into revamping our school's media center to make it more interactive place for the students.  I sometimes wonder how he does it, he's really just an extraordinary man.

That being said, in my 11 years of going to school, I've only met one teacher who was extremely passionate, whereas in dance, I met 3-5 teachers who were.  I think this, in itself, says a lot about the education system today.

It's good to be able to use criticism well and actually work on yourself. During the whole movie i was thinking, jfc this guy is a fucking cunt wtf is he doing, so his methods are extremely harsh but yeah, it may work on some people.

I'm glad you're still dancing and striving to make a living out of it :chu:

I'd hope i could idk :._.:

I think you'd need to have the personality for it, if you're too weak ( I kind of think I am) it will just break you because you're not able to take. Like what happened to a student in the movie *spoil spoil*

+1

And i feel like i need a teacher like that too right now. Badly.

I'm one of those people who apparently can't move forward and improve by themselves, when i'm left alone, i just laze around and don't do jackshit.

I wouldn't blame you lol

She would call you bitch in front of everyone and no one questioned her. I remember being almost permanently kicked out of her classes for challenging her once. She wasn't all bad tho and when I was leaving the librarian told me she did it to push me into reaching my potential. I guess I didn't appreciate her efforts
