What should I do? (School Advice Needed)

Hi so I might not be able to graduate high school on time due to the reasons down below. And it's starting to bother me.

  1. I've moved so much that my curriculum is a mess. (I moved 7 different schools and am attending my 8th one and I'm not put in my right class [i'm suppose to be in Pre-cal as a high school sophomore, but I'm in Algebra 1 because my transcript didn't go through the system]. I repeat some topics in math but then my teacher teaches me something I have never about so I'm not allowed to move up classes for that reason also.)
  2. My physical and mental health condition isn't very good so I ended up doing part time school. So I only attend school for 2 classes (World History which I'm repeating for the 3rd year in a row and Algebra 1) This is making me lack credits.

I've tried finding tutors to gain college credits but my family refuses to pay the amount. (long story) I had thoughts about moving back to the school district that I did very well in and fit in socially and academically but it's in a different state and my parents would never let me move out even if I moved in with a close family friend that said that they would take 100% responsibility of me. I've heard of doing college as a high school student or taking a GED. I don't know what to do and my life depends on this as everyone I've met this year has been constantly nagging/pressuring me about it which is actually causing me health issues. Plus my parents are professors. Any advice?

Wow this is really long sorry...

i met a freshman last year who didnt graduate until she was 20 mostly because of the transcript issues like the ones u described just to give u an example of someone whose been in a worse situation.

i think 1st of all you need to relax about this because god knows what the stress of college will do to you once u enter, and just take things one step at a time.

Graduating hs on time isnt the end of the world, and if u really are taking History for the 3rd consecutive time i dont think going part time is a bad idea to tackle that challenge.

Look into possibly doing independent studies. Not all schools will allow you to finish high school through an independent studies program, so you might be forced to drop out. After you drop out, enter a program to prep for the GED. For someone like you, it is definitely less stressful.

...do the extra year....

The institutionalised education system in the US puts undue stress on students by creating a very linear scope of failure vs success. It's stopped being about learning... it's started being about sticking to a constructed timeline, and when student strays from that, they (and others) are conditioned to feel like something is wrong, and their futures are in jeopardy.

In reality... more and more people are learning that this is not the case. Have you heard of PG year OP? You see it in boarding/prep schools a lot. They are people taking an extra year of highschool before University, for any host of reasons. Some are athletes who didn't get the scholarships they wanted, so they give it one more year. Some are students who didn't get into the schools they wanted, so they use an extra year to bolster their transcripts/grades. Some are students who struggled socially or developmentally...and are just not ready yet for Uni, so they use an extra year of high school to get to a comfortable place.

5 years of high school doesn't have any actual effect on your long term goals. Yes, it might suck to not graduate with your class, but, it's about you in the long run. When people nag you about it, do not measure yourself against what they have going on...contrary to what the system wants you to believe...we can all take our own paths and time and end up in the same places.

So i say, instead of trying to move, or having your family incur unnecessary costs... talk to them...have them ensure you that they will not be packing you up and moving you again... and then do that extra year of school. It is the easiest and most logical approach imo.

There are other things you can do for sure, to get yourself in a good place for next year...talk to your school about summer school courses that can help you recover some credits. Explain your financial situation and see if they can offer you any aid...if they can, that's great, if they can't, it doesn't really change anything.

To me...it sounds like your biggest obstacle is going to be, attending school full time...because it is definitely going to be harder for you to keep up credit wise...when you ... aren'' in school to fulfill credit requirements. I don't know what you have and haven't done in regards to your mental/physical health...but maybe take the summer to tackle those issues. If you need medication, get it...if you need to talk to someone, do it.
