One person was shot in the head and two police were wounded in an attack on a synagogue in central Copenhagen, Danish police said, adding that it was too early to say whether the incident was connected to an earlier one at an arts cafe.
"We cannot say anything about the condition of the injured yet," Copenhagen police said in a statement.
"The perpetrator fled on foot."
The shooting took place in Krystalgade, a street that is home to Copenhagen's main synagogue.

The nearby Noerreport train station, one of the country's busiest, had been evacuated and trains were not stopping there, Danish news agency Ritzau reported, quoting train operator DSB.
It is understood police have advised civilians to remain indoors as a large manhunt for the gunman continues with the army brought in to assist with the search.
Police had earlier confirmed one civilian had been killed at the first shooting and said the suspect had fled that scene in a car.
The first attack was at a cafe hosting a meeting which had been billed as a debate on art and blasphemy attended by Vilks and the French ambassador, who were both unharmed.

Update:

The Jewish security guard killed outside Copenhagen’s Krystalgade synagogue early Sunday was identified as 38-year-old member of the city’s Jewish community Dan Uzan.

Uzan was standing guard outside a late-night bat mitzvah service when he was shot dead in a terror attack on the synagogue.

Rabbi Yair Melchior, a leader of the Copenhagen Jewish community, told Israel’s Army Radio Sunday that Uzan, who had served as a security guard at the synagogue “for many years,†had “saved lives.â€

“The terrorists didn’t go in†to the synagogue, he noted.

Michael Gelvan, chairman of the Nordic Jewish Security Council, told AFP Sunday that Uzan was responsible for “access control†when he was shot.

Police has confirmed that they shot someone about 20 minutes ago, close to where the second shooting took place.

News are still a bit mixed at the time. According to one channel the person was killed(retracted and also says condition unknown) and another station says the condition is unknown.

What did Danish Jews ever do to Muslims?

Don't these dumbass racist Muslims who attack Jews get where European Jews move when they no longer feel safe in their countries? The so called Palestinians should send European Muslims a muffin-basket as a thank you for the new apartment buildings that have to be built for the influx of Jews who no longer feel safe in Europe.

If you hate Israel so much, why on earth would you want to help their population to grow?

RIP to the victim. I was hoping no one had died when the news first came out.

Glad they seemed to have caught and killed the suspect.

What are you talking about? Thanks to our resident OH experts, we know that no true Muslims can be terrorists. Educate yourself!

It's funny how they keep pointing fingers when people make excuses for acts against Muslims, when they always resort to the ultimate cop-out every time it's the opposite situation...

Europe's a mess lately. Why can't people just live together peacefully.

RIP. I hope the offender is brought to justice soon.

A few hours after the synagogue shooting, he opened fire on the police when they identified themselves to him. They then shot and killed him. He was 22 years old.

ABC:

The suspected gunman in two fatal shootings in Copenhagen has been named as 22-year-old Omar El-Hussein, who police said had a history of gang-related violence.

Police raided an internet café close to where El-Hussein was killed and said he may have been inspired by the Islamist attacks in Paris a month ago.

Local reports said El-Hussein had been released from prison two weeks ago for assault.

Investigators believed he was to blame for killing two men in separate gun attacks - one at a cafe where a debate on Islam and free speech was held, and another at the city's main synagogue.

Jens Madsen from the Security and Intelligence Service told reporters the gunman "may have been inspired by the events that took place in Paris a few weeks ago".

Mr Marsden said he may "generally have been inspired by militant Islamist propaganda issued by IS (Islamic State) and other terror organisations".

Police also said El-Hussein was "on the radar" of the intelligence service before the shootings.

Mr Madsen added that police had not yet ascertained if he had travelled to conflict zones "including Syria and Iraq", but he said it was at "the absolute centre of investigations".

Police said earlier they were looking for a man El-Hussein’s age with a history of assault and weapons offenses and links to gangs, Agence France-Presse reported Sunday.

El-Hussein was wanted by police in November 2013 for stabbing a fellow passenger on a train, Ekstra-Bladet reported. This was corroborated by a statement issued by Danish police in 2013, describing an incident in which a man identified as Omar El-Hussein had stabbed a train passenger repeatedly with "a big knife,†AFP reported.
