I'm several months late to the party; but finally got around to watching No Mercy after seeing Jooheon's R2 audition on SMTM. I don't listen to hip-hop/don't consider myself a fan of hiphop so things like flow and skill and swag usually fly over my head, but his translated lyrics (and Black Nut's! :P) showed a sense of self-awareness & lack of fronting that's really refreshing. So I went and watched NM. Went for Jooheon, got hooked by #Gun, fell for IM, and then out of nowhere was Wonho. Wonho why you so charming? Why? Could you not? Please? (Does anyone have gifs of him from the 0 MV? He looked really good in it) Not a big fan of Trespass, but that's okay I'll just continue to jam to 0 and Hieut until their next release ^^ Too-late-to-the-party No Mercy feels under the cut Suddenly slotting in a newbie is such a d*ck move. And an intentionally d*ck move, what with the timing and all. It's so unfair, to the original trainees and the newcomer. True to form *points at sig* I ended up falling for the newbie pretty fast XD Gosh my heart bleeds for Gwanghi & #Gun T_T And I got legit tricked into assuming that Seok Kwon was safe from elimination (cos he said his name in his part of 0 and I assumed that it was some kind of pre-debut marketing tactic. Which would've worked, because he's one of the few NM members I can both recognise on sight AND state his name.) Whyyy starship, why. Does anyone know what their situation is currently? And how did you like All In? Tbh lol. I hope they go back to the military themed one, it's so much better than this set of outfits. And I actually liked Wonho's outfit a lot this time around, since he's blond and has a really fair complexion I think outfits with blue colors suit him well. Also I like him wearing shorts, I think he and Kihyun suit shorts the most among all of them. Only recently; I depend heavily on title tracks to get me interested in a group/artist's album as a whole -- Even if it's a group whose releases I've liked a lot; laziest fan ever, that's me. Hero is the exception since they did promote it and I got drawn in by the thumbnail with Wonho's abflash+smirk. All In is a total jam; I adore the pre-chorus+chorus to bits. as an aside, does anyone have a handy list of Monsta X's variety appearances? I just finished watching Right Now, dang was that series short. Really refreshing though -- I burst out laughing IRL when first game was revealed to be 'Octopus Go!'. I'd say their Deokspatch seasons are definitely a must-watch, but maybe avoid the No Mercy season if you don't want to get confused by the eliminated trainees. (VIXX - 1 year; ZE:A, Nine muses - ; Pre-ballad BTOB; Kim Sunggyu - Infinite is doing good, but his charting as a solo was a bit lackluster) So I guess I'm way too used to this, lol. What's good is that the fandom is growing, as evidenced by album sales. To analog VIXX's progress, I see All in as somewhat similar to On & On. What they need is another evocative comeback after this that'll create enough buzz to push them into being actual contenders. Not go off topic to WJSN, but I can't believe Starship didn't do OTT media-play about Cheng Xiao, that girl could rival Tzuyu as this generation's it girl. She has such an aura about her. They really need to learn how to do shameless promo imo. But mayb Starship don't wanna be tacky like other companies lol 100% agree; I don't know what WJSN stands for/how many members they have/haven't even listened to their song and I know Cheng Xiao as the cutie Chun Li-lookalike. She's adorable. I was all excited over my VIXX merchandise when I initially got it, but now the poster & photocard're just lying around...somewhere. Collecting dust :'D P.S. someone recommend me someone reliable to order Monsta X stuff from for the future. (I'm waiting out this promo cycle, unless they come out with a repackage or smth. I apparently love collecting way too many things... My #1 favourite group is always going to be SISTAR, but I'm starting to love I.M almost as much as Soyou (my ultimate Kpop bias). I think they're definitely my favourite boy group though. After EXO-M "disbanded", I mainly stanned Boyfriend. Last year, I liked UNIQ, MonstaX and Boyfriend pretty much at the same level. Now though, MonstaX is so much more active than the other 2 so they're much easier to stan. RIP EXO-M. Oh, what could have been. I kind of split my rankings for boy/girl groups. I like a lot of girl groups' discographies (Nine Muses, Oh My Girl, After School), but am pretty ambivalent to them as a group. Whereas for guy groups it's a song+variety ranking. In any case, VIXX is my go-to kpop group now and forever more. Am forever rooting for ZE:A to find success as a group as well ​ (I don't think it's going to happen) After that it's a mess; really depends on whose currently promoting song I like. Since All In is such a great jam, the dubious honour goes to Monsta X \o/ Got second hand embarrassment from EOEO's choreography, so UNIQ's been booted down the totem pole, but I still like them as a group. Low-key stan INFINITE (amazing discography + Sunggyu is awesome), and SHINee (again, amazing discography) Really liked WINNER's songs from their survival program, but post-debut nothing's attracted my attention so far ): TL;DR - No. Give me 1~2 more promo cycles of All In's caliber and this might change, however. Though I'd have more luck with picking up Japanese. (my dad + 2 sisters both learned the language, plus knowing Chinese is like knowing 80% of Kanji) EDIT: I really recommend learning chinese - CHN subs are fast, and very very prolific. There's full episode CHN subs for all of Hip Hop Nation, as well as Law of the Jungle. Much better to listen their guesting on radio shows (IIRC there are a few where the guests perform the song live). My personal favourite is for the backing track to suddenly cut out at a live stage, with the performers carrying on singing like a boss.* Or for them to perform acapella**. *Kim Sunggyu is love, is life. **People don't rely on MR removed videos when they praise DB5K/BTOB.
