Are glasses with nose pads recommended for Asians?

Recommended Posts

I was shopping for glasses and some lady recommended that I should get the glasses with the two nose pads because I was Asian.

I was thinking it is because Asians have different nose shapes than other races.

UHMM well not all asians have low nose bridges but if you do it might help the glasses from sliding down?

But I see plenty of asians where those think black rimmed glasses and those dont have nose pads so...*shrugs*

huh?

why?

I don't know what to say.

I wear glasses on a day to day basis and they have those tiny note pads thingy like any other pair of glasses.

I don't think I have ever saw glasses without those tiny things.

so I don't know what to say

like these? plastic frames usually don't have nose pads

even plastic frame glasses have those eye pads. even sunglasses do. at least the ones I saw in my country

I think it's mostly because people find them more comfortable and they keep the glasses a bit upwards.

Just pick a pair of glasses that makes you feel comfortable, pads or not. It's not the sales lady's problem. You are going to wear them.

So pick whichever you want.

the pads OP is talking about are the rubber pads that some glasses have. most plastic frames don't have the rubber pads

and as I said... most glasses in my country... that I saw.. plastic frame or not... they have them.

I guess it depends on the frame of it. I do admit not inspecting every pair in the stores I went and I do not wear glasses with frames that big.

Maybe just bigger frame glasses don't have them. As i said.. most glasses I saw have them. even the plastic frames ones that I saw.

some have those pads like this

then again, I haven't seen all the glasses in the world. As I said.. most that I saw , plastic or metal, have those pads as in the picture you showed or as in the one above.

OP didn't mention the precise type of eye pads.. so the type mention above counts.

If it's just about the rubber tiny ones like you show, then indeed, big frames glasses tend not to have them like that but like in the above picture i posted

Mmm... if the nose lack volume, very little bridge then yes. It is more common in east asians but that depends on you.

My wife definitely need them, otherwise her glasses lie on her face, not her nose

Of course it is still important, because it depends on the nose of the asian person... and it is important so that the glass won't hurt the nose too much... You cannot just have glasses without nosepad, it hurts specially of the nose of the person is quite flat... I suggest that they should have contact lenses instead... Me, I'm asian and from the Philippines actually and I have no problem with glasses, my nose fit those very well...Thanks to my genes, and Filipino's often have a caucasian heritage so it is possible that most of us might have a satisfying nose... But of course I'm encouraging you people to not judge other people's appearance and of course love what you have, what's important is that we have no physical defects and healthy. Well in addition, not all who have cosmetic surgery are successful.

  • 2 weeks later...

The glasses I currently wear are BS3005 by Bliss. http://blissoptics.com/index.html (idk if you can buy from the website but ebay has some frames!)

It is made of a lightweight combination of metal and plastic. I believe most of the glasses have nose pads and the brand itself generally has trendy frames which traditionally might have been only offered without nose pads. The styles are unisex for the most part. I also learned (after purchasing my frames from my eye doctor) that Bliss is actually a Korean eyewear company, therefore the structure of the glasses are more catered to "Asian faces".

The only downside would be that the frames are on average $150 USD (not including shipping&handling if you decide to order online).

I also came by a website called: http://www.eyewearenvy.com/

It's based in San Francisco, CA and sells glasses what they refer to "asian fit". It's prices range from $40 to $330 USD. Many of their glasses don't seem to have the nose pads that you were looking for though.

Another option is to see if your eye doctor or whomever you see has a station that can make adjustments to your glasses. Some may add nose pads to your glasses for you or adjust the length of the eyeglass temples (the "legs").

I hope this helped and sorry if it didn't! This is solely based on my own experiences as fellow glasses-wearer and a person who usually has difficulty finding frames to suit my facial structure.
