About Dan Howell

 

Daniel James "Dan" Howell (born 11 June 1991) is an English professional video blogger and radio personality. He is best known for his YouTube channel danisnotonfire, which reached 4 million subscribers. Together with Phil Lester, Howell presented Dan and Phil on BBC Radio 1 from January 2013 until August 2014, and since September 2014 has been one of the presenters on the station's The Internet Takeover slot.

Dan, along with Phil, are to have voice cameo appearances in Disney's movie Big Hero 6 as Technician 1 & 2 in the UK cinema release.

 

 

 

Personal life

Howell was born and raised in Wokingham, Berkshire. Before starting his YouTube channel, he worked in retail chains Focus DIY and Asda. After attending The Forest School, Howell went to the University of Manchester in 2010 to study law, but dropped out in order to pursue video blogging as a profession. He currently lives in London with fellow YouTuber, BBC Radio 1 presenter and friend Phil Lester.

 

During a YouNow live chat with fans in August 2015, in response to a query as to whether he was a feminist, he replied "absolutely" before criticising jokes, misunderstandings and ignorance surrounding feminism. He also described the ignorance surrounding feminism as "honestly terrifying and dangerous" and commented that the way in which feminism is viewed by general society makes him "panic for the future of humanity"

Howell uploaded his first YouTube video titled "HELLO INTERNET" on October 16, 2009. Howell was encouraged by 'amazingphil on skype' to upload videos to the site.

In 2010 and 2011, Howell took part in the live, annual 24 hour internet broadcast "Stickaid" which is a fundraiser that encourages viewers to donate to the charity UNICEF.

In 2012, Howell won the YouTube competition "SuperNote" run by Rhett and Link. Howell also featured in the weekly video series Becoming YouTube created by Benjamin Cook which looked at the different aspects to becoming an internet celebrity. Howell also wrote a blog for The Huffington Post in which he wrote about the creative process behind making his YouTube videos. In November 2014, Howell won Internet Video Personality of the Year, and accepted his award at the ceremony in London.

Howell and Lester collaborated on a YouTube channel for My Damn Channel, The Super Amazing Project, in which they investigated paranormal events. Howell announced his and Lester’s departure from The Super Amazing Project on 1st October 2014.


On September 12th 2014, Phil Lester and Dan Howell posted the first video on their new gaming YouTube channel, DanandPhilGAMES. On March 8th 2015 the channel hit 1 million subscribers.

 

On 1 April 2015, Howell and Lester launched a spin-off channel, DanAndPhilCRAFTS, as an April Fools joke. It features a single video of him and Lester creating square snowflakes out of paper (called "squareflakes" by the duo), with an amateur editing style and humour throughout. It reached over 154,000 subscribers and 500,000 total video views in one week.

 

As of August 2015, his main YouTube channel, danisnotonfire, has 5 million subscribers and 344 million video views.

- BBC Radio 1

In January 2013, Howell and Lester became the presenters of BBC Radio 1's Sunday evening entertainment and request show. They had occasionally worked with the station before, producing videos for the station's YouTube channel for Edinburgh Festival Fringe and presenting two Christmas broadcasts. The show was designed to be interactive with the audience, featuring amateur music videos from listeners, challenges performed on air by the presenters and song requests. Four months after starting the show, they won the Sony Golden Headphones award.

Howell and Lester presented at the Teen Awards in 2013 and 2014, as part of the BBC online coverage and their Radio 1 show. They also presented backstage at the Brit Awards for the years 2013 and 2014.

In August 2014, it was announced that the last Dan and Phil show would be broadcast on 24 August, with the duo moving to a different show on Monday nights, featuring other popular video bloggers. It was titled 'The Internet Takeover', where they introduce other popular video bloggers to a new show format.

 

- The Amazing Book Is Not On Fire

 

On 26 March 2015, Howell and Lester announced they had written a book through a trailer on his channel called The Amazing Book Is Not On Fire. It was released in the UK on 8 October 2015 and worldwide on 15 October 2015, published by Ebury Press and Random House Children's Books. In relation to this, the pair embarked on a virtually sold out tour travelling around the UK during October and November 2015, named "The Amazing Tour Is Not On Fire".The book topped the General Hardbacks Sunday Times Bestsellers list having sold 26,745 copies in the UK in the first week of its release. It also became a #1 New York Times Bestseller in the young adult hardcover list.

Biography

 

Lester currently lives with friend and fellow video blogger Dan Howell in London. He completed a degree in English Language and Linguistics and then a post graduate in the Department of Theatre, Film and television, going on to obtain a Master of Arts in Video Postproduction with Specialisation in Visual Effects at the University of York.

In 2011, Lester won a Guinness World Record for fastest coin stacking, placing 25 coins on top of each other in 31.617 seconds.

Career

At age 19, Lester posted his first YouTube video blog. Since then he has posted over 150 videos on his channel and as of the day this thread was created (3 Feb 2015), he has over 2 million subscribers with over 169 million video views, reaching 1 million YouTube subscribers on 6 July 2013, and 2 million on 29 August 2014.

Lester also has a second channel, LessAmazingPhil, which has over 642k subscribers and over 11 million views, as of 
the day this thread was created (3 Feb 2015). On September 12th 2014, Phil Lester and Dan Howell posted the first video on their new gaming YouTube channel, DanandPhilGAMES. By the day this thread was created (3 Feb 2015), the channel had gained 921,182 subscribers.

Lester has also appeared alongside Howell in Benjamin Cook's twelve part web series Becoming YouTube, being interviewed on the various topics Cook covered.

- The Super Amazing Project

 

Lester and Howell created a collaborative YouTube channel through network My Damn Channel, entitled The Super Amazing Project, in which the duo discussed and investigated paranormal events. Segments included "Viewers Spooky Happenings" where the audience of the show would send in "scary" items for the video bloggers to react to. In October 2014, Lester, together with his co-presenter Dan Howell, announced that the Super Amazing Project would be hosted by new presenters, found by channel owners My Damn Channel.

It was announced that as of October 2014 Lester and Howell would not carry on working on The Super Amazing Project to concentrate on their Radio 1 show.

The BBC announced that starting in January 2013, Lester and Howell would present the Sunday night entertainment and request show for national UK radio station BBC Radio 1. Both had occasionally worked with Radio 1 before, making videos for the station's YouTube channel and presenting two Christmas broadcasts.

The show was designed to be an interactive, audio-visual broadcast involving music videos made by viewers, physical challenges performed on air by Howell and Lester, and song requests from listeners. The show was streamed in video, live on the BBC Radio 1 website.

In August 2014, it was announced that the last Dan and Phil show would be broadcast on 24 August, with the duo moving to a different show on Monday nights, later titled as the 'Internet Takeover' which features other popular video bloggers.

 

The Amazing Book Is Not On Fire 

 

On 26 March 2015, Howell and Lester announced they had written a book to be released on 8 October 2015. It is able to be pre-ordered on online retailer Amazon. In relation to this, the pair have also announced a tour travelling around the UK during October and November 2015, named "The Amazing Tour Is Not On Fire".

In 2007, Lester appeared as a contestant on The Weakest Link. He also played the role of Tim in 2009 film Faintheart and appeared in a Confused.com advertisement later that year.

 

Lester was interviewed with other internet entertainers on Channel 4 News in October 2012 about the increased popularity of YouTube and video blogging as a profession.

 

In 2013 Lester and Howell appeared on Friday Download, a BAFTA award winning CBBC TV show.

 

In 2013 and 2014, Lester and Howell presented backstage coverage at the Brit Awards and the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards.

 

In 2015, Lester and Howell, had voice cameo appearances in the UK cinema release of Disney's movie Big Hero 6 as Technician 1 & 2. That same year, the duo also guest-starred in fellow YouTuber PJ Liguori's online series Oscar's Hotel for Fantastical Creatures, voicing anthropomorphic food items Brie and Rash.

Considering it's fairly hard to get off videos from YT (even though Phil has the Copyright, doesn't mean that he can delete it easily since YT has to check it first and it takes time) plus Dan and Phil are doing Playlist, I hope the video won't stay that long and hopefully ChannelFlip will take care of this matter ASAP.
