Why is SEKAI NO OWARI so disliked?

They're quite popular right now but a lot of people dislike them as well. I personally don't like them because of all the autotune and there's this... childish, fantastical quality to their music that I'm not fond of. It's like... carnival music.

I'm going to preface this post with that what I'm going to talk about is certainly opinion, but also contains just a bit of hearsay as well.

I think the dislike that a lot of people appear to have for SEKAI NO OWARI roots from several sources:  the overabundance of autotune is likely one, but I think more prevalent than that is that their current, bombastic and carnival-like sound has completely overtaken any other style of music that they used to dabble in (SNO used to release lower key/more understated songs as well, but haven't done so now in quite a long time).  A lot of the middling and negative reviews for their new album on Amazon focus on how it really sounds like one long, overblown song that seems to blend together and gets tiring towards the album's end.  The SEKAI NO OWARI of today appears to have really, really pigeonholed themselves, so if you don't like the sound that they have at this moment, you're probably not really going to like them.

The other aspect of this whole equation, and here's where the hearsay comes in, is that I've seen a pretty darn significant number of Japanese people online talk about how they really don't like SNO's attitude, especially their behavior at festivals and the like.  They apparently come off as disrespectful and flippant to other acts present and complain if things aren't just as they want them.  If true, I can definitely see how people might have problems with SEKAI NO OWARI, since that kind of behavior can really be offputting, especially in Japanese society.

I remember reading something about Japan Night? What happened there again?

I hate the autotune, and the vocalist sounds like 8. And their attitude is annoying.

Summary of events
mat***** | (2014/05/30 23:07)

It was the last festival ever at the Kokuritsu but it was the pits. MWAM worked so hard despite the poor sounds and acoustics, then SEKAOWA comes along to destroy the entire mood of the place, as even the SEKAOWA fans were like they were at a wake, mourning for the dead. It really would have been a monumental disaster if it wasn't for Perfume livening up the place again. Really, thank you Perfume and L'Arc for wiping off their a$$es.

So what did they exactly do at the Kokuritsu? They showed a flip-manga made by Tekken about a railroad crossing suicide on the huge screen, including the lyrics to such a depressing song. As for their other songs, they just had staff members wearing bunny and horse heads, or they'd blow bubbles and stuff -- it was all just so hard to understand. You can't really say that the audience who came to watch the other acts enjoyed their performance. Too bad, since Perfume and L'Arc had kick-a$$ stage direction and performances.
