Is fetishizing a race considered racist/objectifying?

i've always wondered this.. i mean i think it's okay to find yourself more attracted to a particular race of people in a way where it's not harmful to anyone else but when you like or fetish someone simply because they are asian/black/white etc does it become racist? or objectifying?

i think i may lean to a yes bc it's not fair for a person to be called out or liked by someone because of the colour of their skin and chances are theyre likely to be offended by it

thoughts???

edit: also please feel free to disagree with me and give me reasons on why / why not  :)

NAH. IT'S JUST YOUR OWN PERSONAL TASTE.

uh yes, that's basically the definition of it, you're objectifying them because of their race rather than being attracted to who they are as an individual

a fetish is desire linked to an object or disembodied body part. people aren't objects. that's why fetishising a race is considered a negative thing. you can say you have a foot fetish, you have a fetish for maid outfits, you have a fetish for feeding someone, stuff like that, and it's acceptable... but saying you have a fetish for Asian women, or black men, or etc, is reducing them to nothing but their race and ignoring their humanity in favour of treating them as something that exists for your personal titillation

It really depends on why you're going after that specific race. For example someone that just tends to be attracted to the appearance of that race is fine; however, someone that is attracted to that race because of some strange stereotypes about that race is being racist.

I sadly went to school with a guy like that before. He wanted an Asian girl and only an Asian girl because he heard they are obedient to their guys and have no male friends haha. Stuff like that is racist, not just happening to be more attracted to certain physical traits

A white guy said he liked me because I had a fat ass (my ass is bigger than the top half of my body) I cried later on that night lmao.

Yes.

Everyone has a preference i.e. some people would rather date a white person, but to make that a deciding factor in whether or not you date someone is racist. At least, that's how I see it. I personally feel as though this is a moral gray area.

However, it's different if you're one of those people who think "all Asians are so pretty" or "I want my own Asian baby" - the latter is blatant objectification as far as I'm concerned. Don't do that. You shouldn't date someone just because they're Asian / African American / Puerta Rican / etc

Yes. Point blank period.

I mean, imagine if you're Asian, and you have a boyfriend. One day you ask him, "What do you like about me?" and he says, "You're Asian.", that's racist and objectifying. It's the same par of calling a POC "exotic".

no... i think its ridiculous to think that even things like this is racist.. theres nothing racist about being only attracted to certain race.

and if you happen to like pretty asians in a sexual way whats wrong with that

If you fetishize a race, of course it's objectifying. If your skin color is the only requirement for someone to date you, that presents a lack of respect and ignorance.

That's different from thinking "I like curly hair." and feeling attracted to people with that attribute. You still want to get to know them as a person and see if you're compatible as partners or w/e. And to add onto that, seeing people with straight hair won't make you feel disgusted or think that they are inferior... that's the important part.
