I can't believe I did this... but I made an account just to comment here.

 

[note, I'm a pretty new BTS fan; fell hard and fast for them but still have a lot of their content to watch]

 

I'm here because after going through a fair bit of fanfiction, I was wondering why there seems to be so much Yoonmin, as their relationship/interactions didn't particularly stand out to me when seeing them in Bangtan Bombs or other various things.

I guess part of that was just still getting to know who was who, and then some bias-blindness on my part. But I've read enough Yoonmin now that somehow it's now on my "preferred ships for fics" list, lol, and I'm looking out for it now in their videos/pics. I'm guessing that the reason for that is that, despite never actually seeing/looking for it on their actual content, the concept of the Yoonmin dynamics are interesting to me? (guessing that's a big reason for Yoonmin despite apparently giving little material as some have said)

 

But I still would like to know other people's reasons or something? I don't know, I've never commented in a thread like this before ._. sorry for writing so much, this is probably out of place here

Yeah I've been slowly going through Rookie King (watching Bangtan Bombs is easier since they're shorter) and in one of the episodes Jimin's punishment is brushing his teeth with wasabi, and Yoongi lays his hand in Jimin's lap for comfort or something. So I'm just over here grinning with stars in my eyes but when I go to the comments, I scroll through pages and pages and I can't find any comments on it (Hoseok also has hands on him but I never saw anything about it either)!

 

Also, that one video (BBomb?) where Jimin's with Yoongi to support him in basketball and tries to out-cheer someone else still cracks me up every time I think about it.

I'm talking about the bottom one that was the "reward" for something like votes or something that Yoongi promised - I HAD NO IDEA WHAT HE WAS DOING BUT HE WAS WASHING HIS CLOTHES ON JIMIN'S WASHBOARD ABS?!?!? HAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAH

i could not figure out why Jimin was like, glistening, and why Yoongi was holding clothes up to him. I was thinking that he cornered Jimin in the shower or something to take the pic.

In that Bangtan Bomb, the way Yoongi just looks at Jimin like are you kidding me just makes me crack up so hard. 

 

As for fic recs...I only have a few that I can think of (because I never thought I'd be talking about them to anyone) but I'll post them under the spoiler

(ACTUALLY THERE ARE MORE THAN I EXPECTED)

 

 

 

All these fics I've read from Bangtan Fic Recs, and they have a disproportionate good amount of Yoonmin on there. Oh and 1 came from Bangtan Obsessed World. Actually, these fics (not necessarily only these, but you get the idea) are basically the reason why I'm on this thread.

Yoongi comes home late from the studio and is confronted by a sleepy Jimin

 

A short one shot, basically just fluff, but it's not cheesy. I've come back to this fic at least 2 other times, which is really unusual for me I guess. Yoongi's characterization is just really good in my opinion; his inner voice/the narration is humorous and seems realistic, as in isn't too flowery and doesn't sound like a romance novel character, so I really like it. Plus there are some really funny lines.

Yoongi is pretty sure his friends are conspiring against him.

Or: that stupid college au where they're all drunk and playing the "of course" game.

 

I like this one basically because of the dialogue once the drinking game starts. Also everybody's drunk tendencies. It's cute and amusing.

Jimin had a lot of questions at the beginning, after Yoongi first told him.

 

I literally just read this as I was making this post. I really like the writing and the pacing, and of course the characterization.

Review by Bangtan Fic Recs: I love the casual and almost realistic description of Yoonmin during their time off, of Yoongi as a mildly threatening hyung and Jimin as his ultimately obedient, if boundary pushing, dongsaeng. The author builds up the sexual tension perfectly, to the point where I can almost feel the fabric of Yoongi’s shirt under my own hands. 

 

• On and Off the Leash, I'm a Beast by hunchul

Suga is a dog. Yoongi is a human. Jimin is confused

 

Cute, fluffy. Yoongi turns into a dog, sometimes, and finds comfort with Jimin. The relationship is sweet and everybody getting accustomed to Yoongi as a dog is amusing.

 

• twice as nice by idolkiller

PG | Hoseok/Taehyung, Yoongi/Jimin | One-Shot: 2.1k | notes: au, high school and college, pre relationship

Jimin makes Taehyung accompany him on a midnight rendezvous.

 

It's written from Taehyung's side but the banter between the 4 is amusing. It's very sweet and reminiscent of summer nights at the park with your friends (and I'm a sucker for nostalgia).

Haha yeah I know smutty fanfics aren't new, and I've read my fair share of them too, but I just don't really want to rec them myself...which is partly why most of the ones in my post are more on the innocent side? Also because I like platonic Bangtan first, and then ships after. (I want more platonic fics in the fandom!)

 

 

 

Sorry this is not really related to the thread but it's Bangtan? It's all of them and nonromance but I love the concept so much that I really wanna rec it somewhere. I love very muchly is Robot Rock, 7.3k, almost a Cowboy Bebop AU, bounty hunters in space! It's just a lot of fun, that's all.

They are planning to make some incredibly good music and mountains of money, and of course show the uncertain Korean society that the undead can operate in perfect harmony with the living. It’s a glorious plan, too glorious if you ask Jimin.

 

It's got Jikook moments as well, but ultimately, well, we're in the Yoonmin thread. Though the Jikook to Yoonmin moments ratio may feel a bit uneven, admittedly. Interesting vampire au world, it's based off a series called The Southern Vampire Mysteries that I am not familiar with. Interesting world.

It’s almost humiliating how easily Yoongi warms up to Jimin.

 

Just read this while compiling fics.

If you like being punched in the gut you could read this. Yoongi's characterization really fits even though he's not on the side I'm used to him being (he's on the pining side). I don't usually go for one-sided angst but... it's all about how well the characters are written, for me.

Jimin isn’t sure exactly what possessed him to lie to his mom and tell her that he has a boyfriend, but now that he’s opened the position, he needs someone to fill it. Yoongi is, apparently, his only option.

This feels very wish-fulfillmenty to me for some reason. That's not a bad thing though. It's very cute and sweet; I like the slowish development of their relationship. There are some cheesy lines but that's alright.

Same, I'm pretty picky on fics. I'll read more than a few paragraphs maybe, but I wouldn't rec it and sometimes I'll be looking like :/ on parts.

I think I focus the most on good characterization, but sometimes the plot/situation is just too ridiculous and I nope it out of there.

 

I read anything that isn't like complete angst / depressive / suicidal / character death and smth like super weird kinks o.o But I'm really craving for realistic written Non!AUs atm, do you know any good ones? 

 

Idk if you looked through my previous rec post yet but Up All Night, Saturn Rings, and objects in motion (I know you mentioned you've already read this one) are some good realistic nonAU fics (that also aren't sad), but um just covering that bc those were fics I specially liked. 

 

Aha I found some new good nonAU fics! Most of them super short tho. Not all of them resonated with me enough to bookmark them (I'm not sure what the criteria for that is though, just a feeling I guess. But if I mention good characterization down there I probably liked it more.) but they're still good and are nonAU Yoonmin.

 

(15 fics. I'm putting more because I realized that with the fics I rec, you could read all of them in like under 2 hours, probably. Maybe. If you don't take breaks. Idk. Almost all of them are under 3k. I mean, 2 of them aren't even a full 1k.)

It's not exactly completely nonAU, obviously, but it's set in their idolverse? I'm kind of struggling to find good Yoonmin nonAUs that I wanna rec. If you don't mind this, of course there is also those 2 hybrid Yoongi fics from before.

This one is interesting, nice writing, characterizations, and developments. It resolves maybe a bit too quickly for my liking but that's me being picky.

It's so short, it's a drabble, it almost doesn't count, I know. But it's v cute fluff and idk the exchange between them is just... It's very sweet. I like it. Yoongi is nicely characterized and Jimin's Beautiful-Cinnamon-Roll-Too-Good-For-This-World,-Too-Pure-ness is appropriately appreciated.

Yeah, Min Yoongi has a crush on Park Jimin. Yeah, he’s maybe being a little bit mean to Jimin until he can figure it out. Yeah, he's man enough to admit it, if not quite man enough to do anything about it yet. What? He barely has facial hair. Give him a few years to grow into the man he knows he can be.

 

Cute. Fluff. It has a nice slice-of-life kind of quality.

Actually a longer one, set from debut onwards. Nice, kind of a slower one. It feels pretty realistic what with slow build and the idol pressures/world.

I'm not really sure what your level of "realistic" is though (also to what extent of idol life you would want to see because some only mention it a little but man I'm talking in this post as if I was a fanfic a writer, not just recommending hhhhhaa sorry ><), so... I think the characterizations are good and the situations/plot flow plausibly, so that's what I consider "realistic."

 

If anyone has read all of my recs they might be able to tell that I like my Yoonmin hesitant, grouchy, tsundere (Yoongi), oblivious, reluctant, confused, and basically exhibiting all those squirmy awkward feelings...with wit and personality that comes out through the narration, not just the dialogue. I guess to me that feels "in character" for them, realistic.

Hi! Sorry this took SO long to post! I started this like right after you posted but I had to pause going through them for a week and I still want to add more now but it's been like three weeks so I'm just going to go with these.

 

It's actually a nice coincidence that you ask about school-themed fics, because after reading a couple of good ones I was planning on finding some more (I may or may not have been passing on school!AU before). Anyway here's some fics I've found, hope you like them.

(Mostly school!fics, since they're easier to look for and dom Jimin/sub Yoongi fics seem to be really rare especially for non-kink/sexy reasons.

I read this recently and it immediately went into my bookmarks. The characterization is really nice and I like slow building relationships, since that feels really realistic to me. Something that I really noticed for some reason is that Jimin, the POV in this fic, doesn't really go on about how "beautiful" or "cute" Yoongi is. It basically just shows him being kind of drawn to and stuck with Yoongi in situations, and then feeling all self-conscious and swoopy-feeling when he sees him. Idk I just really like that. Sometimes the POV describing physical attractiveness all the time gets a bit much for me.

Yoongi has a bad habit of embarrassing himself but Jimin doesn't seem to mind.

This is one that I remember seeing on someone else's ficrec earlier, but I'll post it anyway. This is such a cute fic and even though I always rec really short fics I always appreciate longer well-written ones. I like the slow development of their relationship.

Yoongi is everything that Jimin is not, Jimin is everything Yoongi should be

 

This one is really nice, with descriptions that paint a kind of quiet, melancholy, yet kind of content tone. Kind of nostalgic in the way that it shows school as the force around them but doesn't really delve into it.

Jimin doesn’t expect being suddenly evicted from his apartment right before his senior year of college. He also doesn’t expect to move in with his quiet neighbor. And he’s definitely not expecting that neighbor to be his newest music teacher, Professor Min Yoongi.

 

Woah okay so I initially avoided this bc I'm not usually into the whole teacher/student concept but then I thought what the heck right, I've read worse and this is only rated Teen. And I'm glad I did. It's cute and very sweet, and their relationship develops at a nice pace I think. 

 

Inverted Dom/Sub Dynamics

 

·         Let Me In Or Let Me Down by noraebangbang

NC-17 (at least that's what I consider it? the other site rated it R) | Multi-Chaptered: 47.9k, ongoing | Notes: side Yoongi/LE (EXID), side Namjoon/Jia (Miss A), side taekook, Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamics, cameos of other idols, depression, very angsty, slow burn, friends with benefits, friends to lovers, WIP

 

Yoongi hates dealing with heat cycles and suppressants and life in general. Everything is a terrible mess, and then there’s Jimin to make things a tiny bit brighter. It’s just really too bad Jimin likes someone else. Even worse that that someone is Hoseok. 

 

Okay so this... I'm not really sure if you'd really consider this sub!Yoongi and dom!Jimin... although Jimin is an alpha to Yoongi's beta here (the author even has a tag that says "I swear Yoongi is a beta," I guess bc he acts like an omega so much apparently). But when I read it a while back, I did notice the oddity of Jimin being the... whole/confident/? one, and I wasn't even looking for inverted dynamics then.

In this fic Yoongi is so lost in his depression and, for lack of a better word, broken, that the relatively bright and put-together person of Jimin seemed rather dominate, because he (and friends) support and take care of Yoongi while Yoongi feels like literal trash through his depression. It's through Yoongi's POV, and therefore we experience him seeing Jimin as a more whole person and himself as lower (than everyone), and therefore it sorta feels that way to the reader. He's not necessarily submissive, but it's something different.

The writing is great, and the worldbuilding is really nice, expanding the a/b/o trope further.

The descriptions of his depression were well done, and he's coming along very slowly. The descriptions of the depression actually are a bit... I don't know if I got too much into the character or something, because I don't think I've ever had depression but... it hit me pretty hard... so be warned of that. It's also because it's not finished yet so the light at the end of the tunnel feels far away ^{which is why I'm avoiding continuing it now}  It's a really good fic though and I'm sure it'll continue to be so as it updates but it's an angst train that's not through the tunnel yet. 

 

 

So sub!Yoongi with dom!Jimin is pretty hard to come across... I imagine that due to the personalities of the boys, with Jimin being a people (and hyung) pleaser, and Yoongi sometimes perceived as having alpha male tendencies, the switched dynamic would seem a bit out of character for them, and their more commonly-seen dynamic is kind of the reason why we like them together, right.  

 

 

 

So...you say that you're picky with fics and if you don't think it's good then you won't read. So do you have any fic recommendations? I'd really like to see the kinds of fics you think are good!

Yes, I usually read 2-3 paragraph first, if I found it good I will read all paragraph diligently but if I think it's not good I only skim it or not read it at all, depends on my mood on the day 

I've found some of my favs but since I don't save it or bookmark it, backtracking it will be a pain in the ass 

I do anything so people don't find this secret hobby of mine    I'd be very embarrassed if they did

Yeah I probably read like 20+ fics but only put those 7 on there for that rec, I'm pretty picky about it too. Idk sometimes it just starts building up like "that's not really how someone would react if..." or "man he's acting kinda ooc" and if it keeps up like that, sometimes I can't take it anymore and will close it on the 4th chapter or something.

And lol yeah I have some pretty incriminating stuff in my internet history that I really wouldn't want my family to know about... if they found out I'd def get a very confused and cautious Talking to...

Your username is too long and I don't know whose face in your dp. Maybe some European Noble I have too many to remember but end up remember no one      

That Pink Envelope fic is really my style. Not too short, not too long, it's progressive, and the most important is, it's happy ending. I always choose happy ending fic since when I read an angsty one, I'll keep thinking about it for days and it annoys me

So I avoid fics with tags like angst, character death, rape, murder, sexual abuse, etc.

Please keep posting your fic rec. I do read them since I'm too lazy to search from gazilion Yoonmin fics out there 

Sometimes I read fic recommended from Tumblr or Twitter 

And it's nice since you also give sneak peek to the story, so I know what to expect

Haha yeah uh... I made a grave mistake and didn't know which I would be changing when I changed my name to "I wonder how long this thi"... it's a funny thing I do on sites where there's a character limit on the title. My original name is "somebagels," so you can call me something along those lines. I'm going to change it back eventually but it hasn't been long enough since I changed it the first time so I can't yet.

Oh and the picture was just some reaction picture I had saved so I used it on this other private tumblr I had and thought it was funny so used it here too.

 

Yeeeah I would recommend avoiding the last fic I recommended then, bc I did the same thing and thought about it for days after and it was just... ._. I haven't gone back to it yet bc I'm not sure it was good for my psych if that makes sense...

It's cool that you read them bc I know like "what's the point of fic reccing, you're just getting all the fics from other fic rec blogs" but they all don't have the same fics aaand mostly, I like to think I have good taste and a pretty critical reading eye especially for characterization, which I feel is really important anyway but especially so for real people fiction (although it does seem unfair of me to be that way since I don't even write any myself...).

Yeah I want to let you know exactly if you'd want to read it, which is why I include the author's summary and all that stuff plus my short comments about it.

Okay this is a biggie but it is really adorable. And super humorous, it has a lot of great lines. I love the characterizations of the characters and writing, and the camp names are just too funny.

Okay so this is part of a series in a gang/assassin!AU, which I am a sucker for if they're not all doped up on angst and leave me heartbroken (which are most of them). In this one, the angst is mostly wounds from the past, but it's maybe not as emotionally... anyway, Jimin is super especially submissive in this one, which on normal circumstances would probably be too exaggerated, but here he has a reason for it and it's not too annoying for me. Yoongi is, well, a hitman, so. He behaves very carefully around Jimin and treats him very gently, which is super sweet (that R is all for violence and dark themes tho). The rest of the series is really good as well; gang/organized crime AUs are really interesting to me.

Without being cheesy (the end gets a little cheesy but what love doesn't). Never will I get over sleepy caring murmured "baby." I don't know why but that tiny bit hit me so hard.

Very sweet, very cute. I really like when things and feelings and relationships develop slowly and naturally, and this is how this fic is. Jimin is inexplicably a dog for the first third of the fic, and it almost doesn't affect much of the story, but I think it does make their relationship easier/more comfortable if that makes sense.

V cute, really funny. Usually I'm not big on pet names bc I just don't think it would be very realistic and also the cheese is too much for me, but it's acceptable here, since that's the point and it's done kind of ironically. The others are really funny and I love the group dynamics.

A short one shot, basically just fluff, but it's not cheesy. I've come back to this fic at least 2 other times, which is really unusual for me I guess. Yoongi's characterization is just really good in my opinion; his inner voice/the narration is humorous and seems realistic, as in isn't too flowery and doesn't sound like a romance novel character, so I really like it. Plus there are some really funny lines.

I like this one basically because of the dialogue once the drinking game starts. Also everybody's drunk tendencies. It's cute and amusing.

Review by Bangtan Fic Recs: I love the casual and almost realistic description of Yoonmin during their time off, of Yoongi as a mildly threatening hyung and Jimin as his ultimately obedient, if boundary pushing, dongsaeng. The author builds up the sexual tension perfectly, to the point where I can almost feel the fabric of Yoongi’s shirt under my own hands.

It’s a glorious plan, too glorious if you ask Jimin.

 

It's got Jikook moments as well, but ultimately, well, we're in the Yoonmin thread. Though the Jikook to Yoonmin moments ratio may feel a bit uneven, admittedly. Interesting vampire au world, it's based off a series called The Southern Vampire Mysteries that I am not familiar with. Interesting world.

Just read this while compiling fics.

If you like being punched in the gut you could read this. Yoongi's characterization really fits even though he's not on the side I'm used to him being (he's on the pining side). I don't usually go for one-sided angst but... it's all about how well the characters are written, for me.

This feels very wish-fulfillmenty to me for some reason. That's not a bad thing though. It's very cute and sweet; I like the slowish development of their relationship. There are some cheesy lines but that's alright.

Same, I'm pretty picky on fics. I'll read more than a few paragraphs maybe, but I wouldn't rec it and sometimes I'll be looking like :/ on parts.

I think I focus the most on good characterization, but sometimes the plot/situation is just too ridiculous and I nope it out of there.

 

Aha I found some new good nonAU fics! Most of them super short tho. Not all of them resonated with me enough to bookmark them (I'm not sure what the criteria for that is though, just a feeling I guess. But if I mention good characterization down there I probably liked it more.) but they're still good and are nonAU Yoonmin.

 

(15 fics. I'm putting more because I realized that with the fics I rec, you could read all of them in like under 2 hours, probably. Maybe. If you don't take breaks. Idk. Almost all of them are under 3k. I mean, 2 of them aren't even a full 1k.)

I'm not really sure what your level of "realistic" is though (also to what extent of idol life you would want to see because some only mention it a little but man I'm talking in this post as if I was a fanfic a writer, not just recommending hhhhhaa sorry ><), so... I think the characterizations are good and the situations/plot flow plausibly, so that's what I consider "realistic."

 

If anyone has read all of my recs they might be able to tell that I like my Yoonmin hesitant, grouchy, tsundere (Yoongi), oblivious, reluctant, confused, and basically exhibiting all those squirmy awkward feelings...with wit and personality that comes out through the narration, not just the dialogue. I guess to me that feels "in character" for them, realistic.

Hi! Sorry this took SO long to post! I started this like right after you posted but I had to pause going through them for a week and I still want to add more now but it's been like three weeks so I'm just going to go with these.

 

It's actually a nice coincidence that you ask about school-themed fics, because after reading a couple of good ones I was planning on finding some more (I may or may not have been passing on school!AU before). Anyway here's some fics I've found, hope you like them.

(Mostly school!fics, since they're easier to look for and dom Jimin/sub Yoongi fics seem to be really rare especially for non-kink/sexy reasons.

Note that I'm usually not going for the NC-17/PWP ones, so I am aware that my recs are REALLY lacking for that, switched dynamics or anything else.

I read this recently and it immediately went into my bookmarks. The characterization is really nice and I like slow building relationships, since that feels really realistic to me. Something that I really noticed for some reason is that Jimin, the POV in this fic, doesn't really go on about how "beautiful" or "cute" Yoongi is. It basically just shows him being kind of drawn to and stuck with Yoongi in situations, and then feeling all self-conscious and swoopy-feeling when he sees him. Idk I just really like that. Sometimes the POV describing physical attractiveness all the time gets a bit much for me.

Woah okay so I initially avoided this bc I'm not usually into the whole teacher/student concept but then I thought what the heck right, I've read worse and this is only rated Teen. And I'm glad I did. It's cute and very sweet, and their relationship develops at a nice pace I think. 

 

Inverted Dom/Sub Dynamics

NC-17 (at least that's what I consider it? the other site rated it R) | Multi-Chaptered: 47.9k, ongoing | Notes: side Yoongi/LE (EXID), side Namjoon/Jia (Miss A), side taekook, Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamics, cameos of other idols, depression, [warning] very angsty, slow burn, friends with benefits, friends to lovers, WIP

 

Yoongi hates dealing with heat cycles and suppressants and life in general. Everything is a terrible mess, and then there’s Jimin to make things a tiny bit brighter. It’s just really too bad Jimin likes someone else. Even worse that that someone is Hoseok. 

 

Okay so this... I'm not really sure if you'd really consider this sub!Yoongi and dom!Jimin... although Jimin is an alpha to Yoongi's beta here (the author even has a tag that says "I swear Yoongi is a beta," I guess bc he acts like an omega so much apparently). But when I read it a while back, I did notice the oddity of Jimin being the... whole/confident/? one, and I wasn't even looking for inverted dynamics then.

In this fic Yoongi is so lost in his depression and, for lack of a better word, broken, that the relatively bright and put-together person of Jimin seemed rather dominate, because he (and friends) support and take care of Yoongi while Yoongi feels like literal trash through his depression. It's through Yoongi's POV, and therefore we experience him seeing Jimin as a more whole person and himself as lower (than everyone), and therefore it sorta feels that way to the reader. He's not necessarily submissive, but it's something different.

The writing is great, and the worldbuilding is really nice, expanding the a/b/o trope further.

The descriptions of his depression were well done, and he's coming along very slowly. The descriptions of the depression actually are a bit... I don't know if I got too much into the character or something, because I don't think I've ever had depression but... it hit me pretty hard... so be warned of that. It's also because it's not finished yet so the light at the end of the tunnel feels far away ^{which is why I'm avoiding continuing it now}  It's a really good fic though and I'm sure it'll continue to be so as it updates but it's an angst train that's not through the tunnel yet. 

 

 

So sub!Yoongi with dom!Jimin is pretty hard to come across... I imagine that due to the personalities of the boys, with Jimin being a people (and hyung) pleaser, and Yoongi sometimes perceived as having alpha male tendencies, the switched dynamic would seem a bit out of character for them, and their more commonly-seen dynamic is kind of the reason why we like them together, right.

Okay so this is part of a series in a gang/assassin!AU, which I am a sucker for if they're not all doped up on angst and leave me heartbroken (which are most of them). In this one, the angst is mostly wounds from the past, but it's maybe not as emotionally... anyway, Jimin is super especially submissive in this one, which on normal circumstances would probably be too exaggerated, but here he has a reason for it and it's not too annoying for me. Yoongi is, well, a hitman, so. He behaves very carefully around Jimin and treats him very gently, which is super sweet (that R is all for violence and dark themes tho). The rest of the series is really good as well; gang/organized crime AUs are really interesting to me.

Very sweet, very cute. I really like when things and feelings and relationships develop slowly and naturally, and this is how this fic is. Jimin is inexplicably a dog for the first third of the fic, and it almost doesn't affect much of the story, but I think it does make their relationship easier/more comfortable if that makes sense.

I'm not sure what he means by "giving a song", like, does it mean dedicating a published song to him? Having it for him to sing? Just giving it to him on a usb to treasure in his heart knowing the song was made specifically for him?

 

Bc I hope it wasn't just Jimin's part in the Tony Montana collab stage... I don't think it was though, since that was just an addition and it was just lines... (and since Jimin went to go adjust them with Namjoon lolol)

But I really like that, as far as we know, it's not been released and they're keeping it private right now, if that makes sense.
