With the rise and debuts of new Korean artists in Japan, there is a now a new generation of K-pop. Starting from last fall, GOT7, Apink, BTOB, and AOA all released their debut singles in Japan; this year, Block B already started their promotions in Japan as well. In February, HIGH4 will be debuting.

Last October, GOT7’s ‘Around the World’ made it to #3 on the Oricon weekly chart. The same month, Apink’s ‘No No No’ made it to #4. Then, AOA hit #8 with ‘Miniskirt’, while BOTB’s ‘Wow’ was at #6.

Apink and AOA are now being considered the new SNSD and KARA in Japan. WINNER, who made to #2 on the Oricon daily charts, is also being considered as part of the new leading generation of K-pop stars in Japan.

Continuing the momentum, Block B, B1A4, and ZE:A all released songs in Japan and made the top 10 on the 21st.

1. [+1181,-26] All of K-pop seems to have the same style and same music. I wish K-pop doesn’t become known as some annoying repetitive thing that’s all the same

2. [+972,-44] I wish they paid more attention to Korean promotions than Japanese promotions ㅜㅜ

3. [+824,-97] Still, no one is on TVXQ’s level

4. [+611,-23] Just the daily charts? They have a long way to go then

5. [+447,-28] I hope they all try their best to make our country more known…! Hwaiting!

6. [+66,-1] I was really surprised that Supernova was so famous in Japan when they’re not even that famous in Korea

7. [+65,-4] The reason TVXQ was able to be so successful in Japan is that they didn’t rely on their popularity in Korea or the Hallyu to make it. They started from all the way at the bottom and worked their way up. As an example, you can just think of how Kangnam and Takuya are acting like in our Korean variety shows. There are still people in Japan who are a bit older who don’t know that DB5K are Korean

8. [+76,-15] TVXQ’s popularity in Japan is a wall you can’t climb over. Boa and TVXQ are the only artists that get the same treatment as Japanese artists in Japan. JYJ released an album there and without any promotion, it still made it to 1st or 2nd place. They didn’t just rely on the Hallyu wave. So even though Japan might be trying to suppress K-pop, TVXQ still do well there

9. [+94,-37] Boa and TVXQ are legends

10. [+79,-23] You have to beat TVXQ first

Who do you think will be the next idols to take over Japan?

TVXQ and BoA are walls tbh.

Where are the lies? I can't imagine any other K-pop artists having as big of an impact as BoA had or as much success as TVXQ still has

Too late

yo dawg its cause its the same, repetitive songs that get popular.  so many nugu groups started off fresh but then switched in order to catch popularity.  there's some great kpop songs out there of superb quality that gets buried under dull releases by more popular groups

I'm just happy GOT7 started out with original songs with Around the World and "So Lucky" though it is a japanese version of GGG's too which no one existed until they did their Zepp Tour.  Also they talked in Japanese during their Zepp tour and the interviews they did were also in Japanese.

If they can't promote in Korea cause others are promoting then why not either way they are gaining experience on the stage, it's not like they disappeared from Korea while they were in Japan.

I kinda felt the same way.....I mean AOA didn't even sale that well bk6fkh9s.png. SNSD and Kara are like legends there how can they be compared to Apink and AOA or any other group who recently debuted in Japan.

The hype is almost gone outside of kpop fandom there.....I think the company is just trting to get extra income and test their artist market and never really thought of reaching tvxq snsd kara lvl as possible..because ofc fans there actually buy physical album so they dont have much to lose..
