So, I see a lot of people treating GFriend like they're the best group ever and I really don't get it. Potential is noted, but they're a little plain to be treated like the next all mighty queens already. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and if you really like GFriend, I respect your opinion, but I also see so many people saying they're better than Lovelyz and I have to disagree with that. Therefore, I've decide to do a slight analysis on these groups. I'll try to stay as unbiased as possible.

First Category: overall concept

GFriend seems to be going for a daily life of high school girls theme, with very plain uniforms (maybe due to a lack of budget).

Lovelyz seems to be going for more of a private, all girls' high school theme with very pristine uniforms.

I prefer Lovelyz' uniforms, tbh. GFriend's simplicity in the clothing department doesn't do it for me.

Second Category: Music Video

Similar styles using a school as setting background. Lovelyz seems to be going for more of a fantasy/daydream type video using the candy and only them being present in the school. GFriend seems to be exhibiting more of a representation of everyday life. Don't really like how they desaturated the colors in in the mv, though, while in Lovelyz' is completely colorful , which adds to the overall feel.

Third Category: album

Tbh, the intro is the best track for me. The beats are a bit lacking, to say the least.

Must say, I like this album significantly better. Goodbye Chapter 1 and Secret Getaway (tracks 4& 5) are just my style.

Yes, these groups are similar musically, but something about Lovelyz music is more catchy, in my opinion. Idk, they just take me with the beats. Makes me feel the same way Infinite's songs do

Fourth Category: Vocals

All the members of Lovelyz can sang (see Jin solo, Baby Soul solo, and Jiae solo) also:

Yuju can sang

I support this vocally talented honey.

The other members are a little shaky live, though.

All in all, at the end of the day, a personal opinion is a personal opinion. I hope both of these groups do well, and stay true to their innocent, young hearts. The day either of these groups does a sexy concept is the day I loose all faith in humanity. They can definitely broaden kpop again by moving to more neutral concepts and away from the overly sexy.

Lovelyz wins for everything except music-wise. GFriend's mini is really amazing, while Lovelyz's a bit boring, especially in its latter half.

The latter half of the album were the member solos though, and they had been released prior to the debut. They were just thrown in for the sake of putting them on an album once and for all rather than just having the singles floating around by themselves.

Yoon Sang, whose team composed the first half of the album, introduced the album as a mini album, so although Woollim calls it a full album, it's really a mini album in disguise.

What I'm saying is albums should be judged as cohesive units of songs, but in this case half of the songs were not composed with the intention to flow or go with any particular album, but rather to stand alone.

I think in terms of composition though, Lovelyz album is more mature and exhibits a wider range of possibilities for the group. The songs are on the slower side overall, but I think they are stronger.

I'm not really into neither and it's a bit too soon to tell since they just debuted but based on what I've seen Gfriend has better music and look more confortable on stage and with their concept than the Lovelyz girls

Music is the most important, and since I haven't listened to the entire Lovelyz album, comparing their title tracks GFriend wins by a longshot. GLY is a nice ballad, but Candy Jelly Love is their main title, and it's a tad boring. Comparing the uniforms is just unfair. Of course Lovelyz has it better since Woollim has money. GFriend will improve their vocals, but Lovelyz does have good vocals already, I give them that.

i like gfriend's debut song better. i've listened to it like 500 times. but i think lovelyz would be more successful because they have more diversity in terms of looks of the members, so they can attract a greater range of fans. i can barely keep straight who is who in gfriend and i watched their mv ALOT
